I bet you sold this line to management in a meeting... didn't you! DIDN'T YOU! That conclusion is ridiculous and uneducated and I hope the IT guy smacks you.
But hey, VB4 is better than VB3 right guys? At least we're on the latest, older version.
Do WHT members really care about the backend though? Sure WHT can fork out cash for custom development to make their own forum software, addons, etc, which they have basically done by keeping VB3 alive this long. The front-end of the site is what needs attention. I hope this backend upgrade was done with the better interests of the frontend in mind.
This site needs a breath of fresh air. It's getting pretty stale. I mean for you old dogs who don't like change you can keep the old forum theme as a selectable option so you can continue to bask in the glory of the good ol' Classic WHT. It doesn't have to be a forced change for those who don't want it to (@bear). Sheesh. /rant

No way VB3 is the best version of VBulletin since it was made by the developers who had passion for it. The company even keep their vbulletin addon forum on the old one: http://www.vbulletin.org/ well version 3.6.x not 3.8.x

Why the antagonism and anger there?
Moderators don't "meet with management in meetings". They are several states away from me, and make their own decisions, thanks. They will on occasion ask for our opinions, but we're not part of that overall process.
We were informed this was taking place. It was not us that told them to.

Kier and Mike both own Xenforo but yeah they was the old developers who didn't like what Internet Brands was trying to get from the VB4, so when they left they had to go it alone and they built that crap software.
When XF was set to launch VBulletin tried sued them but as you said lost two cases.

@bear
I didn't mean this as an attack. Just frustrated at your statement.
I think it would be a shame if you don't have at least some involvement in the direction of WHT. You are titled as the Community Leader... right? You're then saying you're just a moderator with a fancy title? Do you really only just moderate posts and answer tickets? I find that pill tough to swallow. I think iNet/Penton needs to show the moderating staff more respect if that is the case. You guys are what keeps this place running.

Updated my password on WHT I think others might want to do the same, because when they are on VBulletin 4, we'll need to watch out their latest issue was in January 2015: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum...in-vbulletin-4

This was a platform decision. Lots of you know that WHT committed to vB3 long ago. But as iNET grew and was subsequently acquired by a company with even more forums, it became increasingly difficult to justify keeping this one domain on a different platform than all the others. It's not the best use of resources to run different versions of software across multiple sites. And that's it in a nutshell. All about platform.
There is no best host. There is only the host that's best for you.

Security before any other bug fixes needed in VBulletin 4, you can call it a safety preparation like you do when a hurricane is on the way in America. They had 67 fixes in their latest beta version for VB4.2.3 so that's all needed in 4.2.2 if that: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum...4-is-available

That's why a lot of the VBulletin customers in 2010 moved to Xenforo, I know this because when I was a customer we had a thread about it and that's how I found out about XF and the legal case. They made the VBulletin we love and they know what their customers want.
As for WHT if they knew what the customers wanted and did what's best for both they wouldn't upgrade to a buggy version of VB.
I prefer the 3.8 version it just looks VB.

I'd be interested to know what the "other properties" are. I want to see.
I'm also curious what WHT has done for the theme (responsive?)|| Need a good host?

If you are talking about their collection of forums mate:
- http://www.overclockers.com/forums/ (29 members)
- http://www.mac-forums.com/ (Doesn't say)
- http://www.hotscripts.com/forums/ (0 members)
- http://www.dbforums.com/ (2 members)
- http://www.abestweb.com/forums/ (13 members)
- http://www.freewebhostingtalk.com/ (37 members)
They are members online when I checked...
WHT used to get 1,000+ members online, now there's only about 200-400 members what will happen in 4 hours time who knows maybe 2.

The theme is unfortunately closer to default vb4 theme in some areas, but still WHT branded. And, despite my requests (well, a single request), not responsive. But it has a mobile version depending on your user agent string, just like the existing one.
I was also curious about the choice of vb4 over an excellent software like Xenforo, but apparently all other forums that Penton manages are on Vb4 and it kinda makes sense to consolidate software code base. Also, we know the developers, they will eventually rewrite half the code to customize it anyway. I only hope they manage to make it better soon.
I have access to the WHT 3.8 backend code, it was heavily customized. Vb4 is already being modified and modded heavily.
Still, Xenforo FTW!
Change is never easy, everyone, that includes me of all people, will have a hard time getting used to the new forum. I plan to bitch about it for 21 days, then accept my fate and re-code my personal WHT plugins to work againLast edited by Harzem; 04-09-2015 at 07:14 AM.
