    What does "shared" hosting mean?

I was looking @ hostgator and they say it is shared hosting....

I am a former FP customer and looking for a new host.

Shared hosting = multiple users on one system.

Dedicated hosting = You are the sole user on the system.

shared hosting means you are on the same server as other customers (usually about 100 others)

    *lol*

Well agreed blue. The amount of accounts on a server has much more to do with the load they place on it than the number itself.
Former Webhost... now, just a guy.

    Here is a basic analogy:
Shared hosting is like living in an apartment.
VPS is like living in a fourplex.
Dedicated hosting , you own the house.

Very basic but gets the point across to most non-tech people.
