What does "shared" hosting mean?
I was looking @ hostgator and they say it is shared hosting....
I am a former FP customer and looking for a new host.

Shared hosting = multiple users on one system.

shared hosting means you are on the same server as other customers (usually about 100 others)

Well agreed blue. The amount of accounts on a server has much more to do with the load they place on it than the number itself.Former Webhost... now, just a guy.

Here is a basic analogy:
Shared hosting is like living in an apartment.
VPS is like living in a fourplex.
Dedicated hosting , you own the house.
Very basic but gets the point across to most non-tech people.Dale Poncy
