    Free AntiVirus

Anyone know of a free antivirus with frequent updates of definitions and one that will remove the virus, not just scan for them. Thanks.

A little off topic, but I'd personally think of going to a paid product.

Anti-Virus is important to any computer so it's a good idea to spend some green on a product that's proven and have behind the software.

Norton is well known for being a great product, though my desktop has been recently changed (upgraded) to McAfee.

I've developed an issue with Norton since my experience of manually deleting several hundred registry entries out of this computer after it was uninstalled to fully remove it... not a lot of fun.

We will never use McAfee.. that devil software!

We use Norton Systemworks 2002 (soon to upgrade) on all of our systems. Norton Systemworks provides everything we need to maintain and protect our system.

Oddly we seem to disagree about the same issue (just products in reverse).

McAfee VirusScan 7.0 is a nice program. I found Norton SystemWorks (2003) to be resource hungry and nuked XP at the drop of a hat too often - reboot looping.

Last virus update was 2 viruses on May 18, 2003. I would go buy Norton or McAfee for like $30 (even less) at best buy.

McAfee is by far the best Virus software that I've used. I had Norton System works but it was very resource hungry and the speed gained from uninstalling it was great. I have also tried the anitvirus software provided by http://www.ca.com however I found it to have to many bugs because it deleted system files that were needed to run windows thinking they were trojans forcing me to reinstall windows.

I agree. The speed increase by switching to McAfee , and removing Norton was really noticable.

I'm happy with McAfee and Zone Alarm.
