Hi,

am about to get a dedicated/co-located server for my consulting business. I have they choice of OS to put on the box. Since I have a budget for this I am not able to use a SUN machine and therefore have to pick something else. Most likely a PIII 600+ with 256-512MB RAM. For you guys that have the big picture on server OS, what would be your pick? Would appreciate the prosncons for each. Thanks for your help.

Enjoy...

AXL

This might help a bit http://www.securityportal.com/cover/...y20000724.html It addresses security in the various releases of Linux. Red Hat has about 70% of the Linux market so its already established popularity helps perpetuate it.

One of the things I like about RedHat 6.2 in comparison to other distributions of Linux is that it comes with a firewall, chains, and wrappers all on by default. On many other distributions, you have to know how to protect yourself (in RedHat you need know-how as well, but at least the defaults are intelligent).
