Host mail IP on Hotmail block list. What does it mean?
Hello,
I've recently changed host, and since the first day I noticed that their mail IP is in the block list of Hotmail. I opened a ticket 2 weeks ago, and while I was told they made a request to be removed, and we exchanged messages several times, after 2 weeks I still get the same error messages from Hotmail.
(ultimately generated from xxxx@xxx.com)
host mx1.hotmail.com [65.55.37.120]
SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<xxxxx@yahoo.it> SIZE=6276:
550 SC-001 (COL004-MC4F13) Unfortunately, messages from 192.65.243.103 weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list. You can also refer your provider to http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors.
What does it means? Since it's a shared host, there are probably spammers in other accounts? They have a strong policy against spam in their ToS, but they might have not disabled their accounts maybe.
Considering that I'm still in the money back guaranteed period, should I run away or be patient?

I'd jump ship if I were you and use that money back guarantee period.
If a shared host cannot police the IP addresses that their server is using properly, something very easy to do in shared hosting; it makes me wonder what else they cannot do. Especially if they haven't resolved this in two weeks, I suspect more serious issues will be met with even more problems on their end. Get out while you still can.█ Mean Servers - Mean Business

As you mentioned this is possibly due to a spammer in the server. Finding the cause and once the issue is fixed your host will need to place a delist request. In the meanwhile they can even change the mail IP of the server temporarily.

Or you can contact your host to switch your account to another server which IP is not being blocked.

Would you mind sharing the name of the host? I am quite curious now.
BTW: It seems as though your website is offline, I am getting a CloudFlare 522 Connection Error█ Mean Servers - Mean Business

Weird, may have been a brief outage as it is back online for me now too.
Never heard of them but it looks like they are just an OVH reseller which would explain your IP addresses being blacklisted. OVH is notorious for hosting those that send out spam, DoS attacks, etc.
If email delivery is important, I would advise looking for a host that does not utilize OVH as you will just have heaps of problems. OVH is cheap so it attracts a lot of people that cause problems for other people. It might be a good platform for certain projects but email deliverability isn't one of them.
Whether your actual hosting provider has a strong policy against spam or not, they are a OVH reseller and at the mercy of how well OVH can keep the IP addresses clean. It is essentially out of their control.Last edited by MeanServers-David; 03-06-2015 at 11:55 AM.

They can change the IP address all day long, the IP addresses are still in the OVH range and will be blacklisted by a lot of spam lists. It isn't a problem affecting just these specific IP address you keep being reassigned to but the ENTIRE IP address range OVH has assigned. You need to find a host that doesn't have a poor IP address reputation if you want your emails to get through. You won't get anywhere if they keep giving you OVH IP addresses.

Once you get listed on Hotmail, Its a tough thing to get delisted. Might take a lot of time, best thing to do would be to pack your bags and start looking for a host whose IP's are clean.

I think 2 weeks shows lack of understanding in regards to keeping IP's clean. Usually a web host can get a block removed before you even notice it (because they are on it).
With that being said though, if your email is important, dont depend on your web host for it. Go with a dedicated email provider like Google Apps, its going to end up saving you a tone of time, money and headaches.Looking for an awesome VPS Offer? CLICK HERE
