Spamming on MS messenger

Has anybody else noted how much spam is coming through on MS's messenger app? In the last week, I get at least 4 a day. They are spamming from fake user accounts, its totally annoying because they are somehow adding 4 or so people to every conversation and using bots to spam porn sites.

Ive been using messenger for years now, and I have never had this before. I dont think I am on a list due to the fact that the people that get added together are all variations on my email address.

it's hotmail/msn; what do you expect ?

are you talking abotu windows messenger, or msn messenger?

what os are you using? you're probably tlaking about the little popup dialogs that say

Quote:
MESSAGE FROM ROOT ON COMPUTERNAME

buy this crappy product!

if you're talking about those, then do this:

goto start
goto run
type "cmd"
type "net stop messenger"
hti enter
type "exit"

Agreed. I've seen a big growth in it lately myself. While I'm not positive, it seemed to start happening after I upgraded it to the newest version.

Very annoying. MS Mess is a handy little app.

I have been getting them too. They pop up in the middle of your screen - totally intrusive - so if you are busy working or typing away, suddenly you're no longer looking at your work but at window advertising Human Growth Hormone or some totally useless product. It IS very annoying. I had been wondering myself if there was any way to turn it off or block it somehow.

I get it too. I dont use a hotmail or msn email addy but I still get it and after some research I found that they are provided through antimessage.com. hmm.. says it only works on things like win xp. no 98/95.

I think Nick is talking about spammers who had you as a contact in MSN Messenger, not exploit the built in messenging service. I've had this once, when the standard chat box popped up but it hadn't asked me if I wanted them added as a contact Since the latest upgrade I've had no problems.

i've got no spam except casually in icq.

i don't use the same screenname on any account that i use for mail, that prevents some. like in yahoo my yim is gi4gu4r4 and i know i get a lot of spam to that @yahoo.com but that address does not exist. in every msngr i am always away or invisible.

I get that also. I'm sitting there on MSN Messenger then 4 porn bots come up in 1 convo and spam me with addresses.

Solution: Disallow anyone you havent added from contacting you..

Actually I used to use Trillian - nice tool. Ended up going back to MSN as it's installed with XP.

I do hope MS get a handle on this spam rubbish though...
