Are you looking for the actual servers to be based in the UK or just the company providing them?

I dont think to be honest its worth having a host in the UK with data centres here, they cost to much and you would certainly not get a good account for £25..
Unitehosting.co.uk provide all your looking for but their servers are located in the states again I will bet because its not cost effective to have any here.
The biggest difference between Uk and Not is nothing really. The same speed service etc.....
I would look away from uk based.... I am in the uk and have a lot of UK customers all hosted on USA servers.

In addition I know that 123reseller have negotiated some pretty good rates so again the old "common knowledge", of the UK being too expensive, is no longer necessarily true for all..
Now, I'm biased because I've known the management from 123reseller.co.uk for the past 2 years but you could do worse than check out their reputation and the prices... You certainly don't want to just take one persons word for it...Last edited by WebSnail.net; 05-26-2003 at 12:17 PM.

Especially what was noted above about search engines.
Personally, I'd say local hosting in the UK is a niche market.

Hm, 123resellers doesn't even state where their servers are located. A reseller who doesn't know anything about the dc their servers are in is playing blind in a fast game.

It looks interesting but 123 absolutely need to give info on exactly *where* they are hosting.
A host who only tells me they host in London doesn't discount the possibility that their datacenter is a couple of knackered P2's in Uncle Bob's back bedroom.
If the web page had said "Redbus" it would have sold me the plan there and then.
But *only* if in London.
How come the two links above say the servers are in London - no, wait, they're actually in NJ?
I assume Nac for NJ, but really? Or is it Uncle Fred's back bedroom?
So your servers are in London? NJ? Both? Just NJ but with some mailservers in Redbus??
Come on, folks - this is basic customer information delivery.Last edited by I, Brian; 05-27-2003 at 08:46 AM.

Overall I think your point has already been made..
However, you've mis-read the quotes I gave you. Re-read them and you'll see that they relate to the same company but provide info on 2 seperate setups and market areas ie: Global and European..
If you re-read the information properly you'll see that there are servers in the USA and the UK and the sites target specific markets with specific datacenter offerings... That's not to say that the 2 are mutually exclusive but you've seen yourself that a UK market exists or else why would this thread be here.
What really intrigues me though is why you insist of breaking this point over everyones heads when it's already been noted by the company themselves (see "Craig"s post).. You could be accused of trying to make them look a bunch of incompetents for some alterior motive which a little research would prove is rubbish... Seriously, ask around their customers.
At the end of the day I'd hope that anyone looking for a host would go through the process of asking lots of more questions, checking the information against existing customer opinion, reviews, gut feeling, etc.. before diving in, so ultimately you'd hope that in amongst those questions would be "Where's your datacenter(s)?"... Lord alone knows I'd be mortified if someone saw this thread, checked the web site and just bought straight into an account without any further thought... That's just asking for trouble with any service provider.
Now.. I think we've taken this well and truly offtopic don't you... Let's see if there's any other host recommendations out there from anyone else...

I have had a reseller account in 123resellers UK-based datacenter for about a month. So far I haven't experienced any downtime and everything works great. Craig is a really nice guy and he helped me transfering a lot of accounts from my former host.

Mac

My point was frustration with info delivery on sites. It's not uncommon and it's across the board. Sometimes it's just me being dumb, but other times it's companies simply not putting the info up. It gets very frustrating.
Was looking for managed servers for a friend about a month ago. The amount of info available from a lot of the companies I looked at was terrible - some would PM me and not even list managed serves/ managed options on their site!
It's not an issue of companies being bad. It's just that sometimes I think some people are so tech orientated that they forget the basics for the complexities.
Glad you updated the info though - I'll check again.
