the fact that it is a single word loses much of its benefit. It's short, but don't think that it is a register.com, as that word had direct meaning and was easily recognized, associated with its use, and spelled. I would far rather have two meaningful words than one that the vast majority of people will not know.

It does have a nice ring to it though, if positioned correctly as a brand.

Who would have thought "verio" would be worth anything before it was registered

I agree with incognito. If a user has to lookup the meaning, then single word is useless almost. The idea behind single words is typeins primarily (and the fact they are easier to remember in many cases). I dont think anyone is typing in regest.com.

nobody has heard of this word I have come to think. maybe some english professors and an oddball here or there but you are not going to find many who have heard of it.

Verio.com is worth a lot because they have promoted it, have a huge amount of business and have invested millions. If you did that well with any domain it would be worth a lot. I dont think verio is even a word (not in my dictionary). So its like yahoo or google. Development +promotion = value.
