what do you mean when...

...you talk about bandwidth? Do this mean total data transfer (i.e. when someone accesses your site) or you sending data back and forth to the site (i.e. updates)?

I appreciate the answer but I was wondering what they refer to when talking about someone hosting a site for you. If you see my first question you can see what I am relating it to. I just wanted to know if it was the users of your site or if it was you when you update your site. My sites will not be updated everyday but they may have a few users and I do not need my site down if I am trying to transact business.

It's both. All transfer incoming or outgoing from your site.

Think of bandwidth as the size of your average ordinary garden hose, and transfer as the amount of water going through it. In or out, it still counts.

Bandwidth is often confused with data transfer, to the point where they're almost interchangable these days. In the vast majority of cases transfer is recorded both ways - incoming and outgoing traffic. It's recording can range from http (websites) to ftp, to mail.
