Cool

at cobaltrack.com

RaQ 3 Platform
X86 300MHZ
32MB DRAM
8.4 GB Hard Disk
51GB of Traffic
$0/Setup
$99/Month

and they only charge a $2.75 dollar per gig?

there has to be a catch since its so cheap?

funny thing is that they are located 25 miles from me.

Its hard to say, seems at that price they would be loosing a good amount of money. defiantly not making any. Figure that type of server costs around $2600.00 US, 51 gigs/month transfer is around $100.00 US (bulk bandwidth cost)

So it depends how the company is doing, if its a larger company they would have lots of bandwidth to spare, and they buy in large amounts so they get a discounted price. If its a smaller company then you need to ask a few questions.

Chris, it is a nice day out- take a ride down there and checkum out for us, would you?

Jason, that RaQ doesn't cost that much (about $1,300 less than what you thought), but it still is pretty cheap!

Sent a message to them, and it was undeliverable after 4 hours. Still haven't gotten a reply yet (sent yesterday afternoon).

Chicken,

Really that cheap?
The cheapest we are able to get the same type of server (except with 64 megs of ram) is about 2900.00 CDN .. which is $1951.00 US, and that's at Gold reseller price, Regular suggested retail is about double that.

You are right, I am a bit over, but not 1100.00, If I am over that much, please forward me to where ever you have seen that price

If you start a post out with "Sounds too good to be true" you just answered it. Of course you may be the one person who got a ferrari for $50 at a government auction! Seriously, any newbie's - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Servers and bandwidth cost money - make them cheap and you compensate by jamming servers too full - it's just the economics of web hosting unfortunately. I'm just rambling, I didn't read their web close enough to shoot them down.

Talking

chicken,

You are right .. the price I quoted was a bit high .. didn't have the exact price, However thank you for the link (it is working) as it is a couple hundred dollars cheaper.

The gold reseller I am talking about is the company who provides us with Bandwidth, We have a very close relationship with them and get the servers at the price they get them at. A gold reseller if I am correct sells over 50 servers / month , and there for get them cheaper then you would buying them directly from cobalt. (which is a new development, before you had no choice but to get them through a reseller.)

Will need to find out how fast they ship the servers, as they could also be a reason why they are a bit cheaper. As we get charged nothing for shipping, and its up in one day

Again, thank you for the help.

I would like to make a correction in my references to a GOLD reseller, of the cobalt computers. the Exact name is: TRUE BLUE SAPPHIRE PARTNER.
Which ISP's/Companys can become if they sell over $50,000 /Cobalt products quarterly.

Maybe this is a coincidink but go here:

Then go here:
http://dialtoneinternet.com/cobalt/cobaltprices.htm

Am I the only one who smells something fishy? I mean the sites are pretty much identical.

I noticed that as well, first thing.

Jason,

Of course now that I want to show you a link, it is GONE. Hmmmph.

Well, ($1,300 less than what you said would be $1,300). Here is another link that is close but not what I was talking about...
http://www.insight.com/cgi-bin/bp/17...=raq&x=49&y=11

The prices you quoted were quite high. I don't know who's "gold reseller" prices those were (cobalt's?), but you can do better.
