    lame HTTP requests

What do people normally do with requests for web sites they're not hosting? ie, www.example.com is pointing at my server and I'm getting a few requests for pages on domain every day, but I have absolutely no connection to www.example.com.

So far I've just been responding with 404 errors; does anyone else have a better solution?

You could always change your 404 pages, from saying "page not available" to your site's homepage. I can't really think of anything else though right now.

You have reached this web page by typing "example.com", "example.net", or "example.org" into your web browser.

These domain names are reserved for use in documentation and are not available for registration. See RFC 2606, Section 3.
I assume that's not your server.

I was using "www.example.com" for its intended purpose -- an example in documentation.

That said, it's rather disturbing that IANA has put a web page up for www.example.com -- originally, example.com was defined as "guaranteed to have no DNS entries".

Actually it's just guarenteed to be reserved for documentation and various things.

All being said, don't respond at all, figure a way to drop their packets completely, won't waste bandwidth, just a teensy bit CPU time.

Or contact the person listed on the domain / the registras and complain.

for what reason would someone point example.com to your name servers?
