Stupid Tornados
Ok...so I am sitting here, and our tornado alarms just started going off about 45 seconds ago. I HATE the midwest!
Talk about scaring the crap out of me, I didn't even know it was supposed to storm today. Sad part is...the sirens are going off, but none of the news channels are showing it....oh wait now they are...about one mile away from me

You must be close to me as the same thing happened here. Really made my girlfriend mad as the new pre-empted her favorite show.
being in the Midwest is surely unpredicatable when it comes to weather .... just wait 5 minutes and the weather will change.

The really sad part is that I was watching 41 and Gary kept apologizing for pre-empting Dateline and West Wing. He specifically directed it to those in southern KC stating that it is more important to cover this. Do you really even have to say that? It should be a given.

One time the tornado sirens went off here in Northern Ohio. Then I looked outside the window and saw this thick black cloud, and dust rolling down the street. Never ran so fast to the basement in my life.

That's one of the bad things about the Midwest...one minute the sun is shining, the next a Tornado is rolling down the street. I'm just used to it now.
At least with hurricanes you have advance notice of them hitting you.

If i had the money, and i wanted to live in the plains, i would build a house underground, i once saw someone did that, think it was in a populated city..
It was a one story house, had roof room, grass, everything..
Pretty niceDon't look for a way out.

There are many houses around here built into the ground...meaning one side is exposed while the rest is surrounded by dirt. Bad part is, many of them have the exposed side facing SW, which doesn't help when most of our storms travel NE.

Thats why you build the house under the ground completely
Don't look for a way out.

Not much you can do in the event of a tornado. Like they say, put your head between your legs and kiss your a** goodbye!
I have been indoors and outdoors during them. I have always enjoyed storms...my parents used to think I was crazy, it could be raining/hailing/high winds and I would be out playing in it. I am on the third floor of my apartment building so I really have no place to go. Sad part is I face east so I can't see what is coming at us. I figure if it is time to go, it is time to go. I won't be saved by "getting in my bathtub/closet (that's what is recommended if you don't have a shelter or basement)?
It is amazing to watch them though...if only they didn't cause so much destruction and death.
People use the issue of natural light as the exclusion for not building the entire house underground. You can use skylights, but it is not the same as having windows.

Another fun tornado day. A tornado has touched down...near me again. Houses damaged, heavy hail. Sirens are going yet again.
Did I mention I hate the Midwest?

Update....there are many areas that have been damaged or destroyed...they are looking for survivors in the collapsed buildings.
I think it is past me now....but I am still shaking. There was golfball size hail here. I really hope no one has been killed.
Now the sirens are going off again.

They are now showing the damage....houses/businesses are destroyed. It is now past me, to the east about 2 miles. They think it was about 400 yards wide and prelimenary F2 or 3. Another storm is taking tornadic shape to the south.
