Top 5 Must HAVE DVDs
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Warner)
The good: Realistic special effects and CGI; loads of kid-friendly extras; Harry doesn't look that much older; more Quidditch.
The bad: Spending three hours watching a Harry Potter sequel.
The bottom line: If you liked the original, you'll like this one. If you didn't, this is still worth a demo.
Favorite test scenes: This time around, the monsters are scarier, and the graphic effects look better, but we still liked the Quidditch scene in chapter 13 (The Rogue Blodger) best. This round of the game finds Potter being chased by a possessed ball of destruction that punctures the observation towers and smashes the stands as he whips around the arena dodging infrastructure on a supersonic broom. Also, check out the details in Hogwarts' exterior during the great flying-camera shot at the beginning of chapter 10 (Mandrakes); lesser video systems won't handle the movement well.
The Transporter (Fox)
The good: Chase scenes; arbitrary rules; fight scenes; more fight scenes; special features with extended unrated fight scenes.
The bad: Music by Velveeta.
The bottom line: This is a mindless, beautifully choreographed montage of cannon-fodder thugs falling to the fists and the bullets of the unstoppable hero.
Favorite test scenes: The best scene in the movie, from an action and a home-theater demo standpoint, occurs right at the beginning. In chapter 3 (The Getaway), try to notice the details in the BMW's walnut wood trim, the cobblestone pavement, and the well-resolved palm trees as the the Transporter navigates tiny French streets and a pedestrian boardwalk at breakneck speeds. Chapters 21 through 23 contain progressively more cartoonish and creative fight scenes until the 'porter ends up underwater with a human body as a shield. Look closely, and you can see the actual bullets as they pass by with trails of bubbles.
Austin Powers in Goldmember (New Line)
The good: Solid video transfer with unexpectedly dynamic sound, including a DTS ES 6.1 option; Infinifilm enabled.
The bad: Watching Goldmember eat flaked-off pieces of his skin.
The bottom line: The third Austin Powers flick still has some mojo left in the tank--and it looks and sounds good, too.
Favorite test scenes: If we had to go with one scene, it'd be chapter 4 (Destination: 1975), where Austin travels back in time in a purple pimp-mobile to take on Goldmember at Studio 69. On a good rig, Foxxy Cleopatra's gold eyelids should sparkle in her close-up, and the colors of Austin's pimp suit, as well as the rest of the crowd's costumes, should really pop out. Also, Goldmember's roller-disco entrance to the tune of "Shake Your Booty"--oops, we meant "Hey, Goldmember"--ranks up there with the club scenes from Night at the Roxy.
Spider-Man (Columbia TriStar)
The good: Breathtaking scenes of Spidey swooping between New York City skyscrapers; cackling, manic fun from Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin.
The bad: The studio cleaned up the CGI on the DVD, but scenes with Tobey Maguire's computerized twin still stick out like sore thumbs.
The bottom line: Action balanced with nerdy humor make this spanking-clean transfer a joy to watch.
Favorite test scenes: Virtual-Spidey is rendered in spotless detail when he jumps around a balloon-filled Times Square in chapter 18. The Green Goblin's exoskeleton looks sharp and free of noise as he plows through cops to kick the Human Spider in the stomach, and the close-up of Kirsten Dunst as she swings away in said spider's arms gives a nice example of her delicate skin tone. Chapter 7 seethes with cool details, as the camera--in a clever look through Peter Parker's heightened spider-sense--zooms in on a paper airplane, a hovering fly, and a spit-wad frozen in middelivery.
K-19--The Widowmaker (Paramount)
The good: Sculpted bass makes you feel like you're a mile underwater; military buffs get a good dose of Soviet secrecy.
The bad: Sean Connery in The Hunt for Red October sounds like Boris Yeltsin compared to Harrison Ford's pathetic Russian accent.
The bottom line: This is the perfect disc for testing your system's low end.
Favorite test scenes: While its video quality is quite good, our audio guru Steve Guttenberg loved this submarine suspense picture's authentic Dolby Digital soundtrack. Director Kathryn Bigelow rented high-end subwoofers to monitor the sound, and the result is palpable bass with texture--along with all the effects caused by thousands of pounds of pressure per square inch on the metal hull of a poorly built Russian sub. Check out chapter 5, as K-19 dives beneath the sea under mounting pressure; the surrounds come alive with creaks and groans, and your own subwoofer, high end or not, gets a serious workout.
Out of those 5, I personally only like the last three, Harry Potter is about as much fun to watch as two 300 pounders wrestling in sumo thongs. ewwww haha

To tell you the truth I didn't like Austin Powers in Goldmember as much as the 1st and 2nd ones.
The movie I extremely like is Matrix, I never get tired of it. I just can't wait till Matrix Revisited Comes out(about 2 Weeks)!!!!

Dumb and Dumber is certainly a good one. They are making a "prequel" called "Dumn & Dumberer" that goes back to when Harry and Lloyd met. Sad part is they are not using Jim or Jeff.
I can't imagine it being the same without them.

I loved BlackHawk Down. White men shooting black men can be a good plot. Especially if it's ACTUALLY WHAT HAPPENED.
