Virtuozzo...?

I am getting ready to demo Virtuozzo for the VPS's. Has anybody here used this product. I am hearing some conflicting reports. Some people are telling me you could get 100-200 VPS's on a decent server. Others are telling me that you can get 30. Some are saying 8. However, some have said it crashes after 5.

I'm looking for some honest feedback from people who have actually used it or have acurate knowledge from people who have used it.

Crashes after 5? Not bloody likely. In fact, I've yet to see it crash at all. At the very most, resources will be declined to a particularly thirsty VDS.

I use it, it works very well.

Oh, for what it's worth, I've had 40 running on a small Dell PowerEdge 1650 with only 2 GB RAM. There were no problems during that test.

I'm personally not saying it crashes after 5. That was an answer I got from someone. However, everyone else said it worked good. But out of everyone who said it worked good, they all say it supports different numbers of VPS's.

I actually have a Dell 1650 that I was thinking of putting it on too. So with 2 gigs you of RAM, you are having no performance issues with the server.

What kind of software are you running on each VPS? Cpanel, conflixx, Webppliance? Also, do you have URL?

No problems with 2GB RAM, though I really recommend that you max it out with 4GB. I am using PowerEdge 2650's with 6 GB RAM as a rule of thumb going forward. The price difference from 1650 to 2650 is marginal when you add the fact that you get P4 XEON's, DDR, and 5 SCSI devices. Not to mention the built in ERA for remote access.

Right now, most VDS's are running custom apps developed by the customers who have subscribed. Out of respect for privacy I can't divulge any subscriber URLs.

Regarding control panels, I have one customer running CPanel in a VDS on a PowerEdge 2650 w/Virtuozzo 2.5. That particular server has 6 GB RAM and runs a few other VDS's, but nothing substantial. I also have about 6 other CPanel instances running just for kicks and to test out the installation procedures. It's flawless, runs like a champ.

Oh, yes, you can click on my www button.

If you are looking for something running in Virtuozzo, see http://test.ve.dxon.net which is a test environment with Caucho's Resin running. Resin runs good as an application template.

Well thanks for your info. If you know any other users, please send them here, I want to hear as much feedback from other users. I think I will give the demo a shot regardless of what others say. But I still would like as much feedback as possible.

Understood. It's a lot of money to plunk down on something just from a demo produced by $ales people. Good luck!

Price? About $1/1GHz CPU.

I've been running now 6 real production
medium->high traffic VE's in Virtuozzo without
any real problem for a couple months.
That's on PE1650 with only 1G RAM.

Wow. Sweet deal. That means the software will only run me $4.00 for my (2) 2.0 GHz Xeons.

I think you meant $1.00/MHz.
