HostGator.com

I just set up my site, (http://www.thelastgamer.com/) with HostGator.com

Here is my Rating:

Ease of Setting Up:
10/10
I just filled out one little form, and it was ready to go.

Ease of Use:
10/10
Everything they say they have on their control panel is there, plus more! I was blown away by this C Panel X thing. It is easy to use, and has a lot of important and good features other places didn't have. The FTP works great, and it is FAST.

Speed:
10/10
My site is VERY fast. I am very pleased, since with Dell hosting, it was like a snail.

Uptime:
10/10
Hasn't been down once.

Support:
20/10
The guy that always helps me is professional, friendly, and goes out of his way to get what I need done, done. He goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Overall Rating: 10/10

This is what I am hosting my site with for life. I had so many BAD BAD BAD experiences with other places, and now I am having an EXCELLENT one.

You just setup your site, but you mention the uptime is 10/10?

Wait, if you just set up your site, how long have you been there? I'm don't know if I'd be too sure of your uptime rating.

But he says he has had bad experiences before, so he could have hosted his domain with any number of companies before this one.

Lumivel, most posts about Hostgator on this board are positive so I believe what your saying, but don't over exagerate the positives. 100% uptime for 1 week means squat. Tell us about set up, tell us about customer interaction and tell us about ease of use, but wait a while to start preaching uptime and support.
Thank for the review anyway.

You make some valid points.

Lumivel signed up with us on 4/21/03

I asked him how he could say our uptime was so great if he has only been with us about a week....

He said that one of his friends had hosting with us for a year and that he use to use his account all the time, before deciding to purchase his own. I asked him what his friend’s site was but all he could remember was his name. I don’t know how you use someone’s account for a year and don’t remember their site =)
But he is a client with us, and I don’t think anyone would lie about something so silly.

As far as ratings go no host in the world is 10/10.
There is no such thing as a perfect host. All hosts have some downtime therefore none are perfect. Any host that claims 100% uptime is lying and a bad host. Some security upgrades require a reboot for them to take affect. So for all ya new people looking for a host if any of them claim 100% uptime stay away.

yeah, there's no such thing 100%uptime.

Lumivel, you say your site is very fast, just wait till your site is about as big as WHT and if it's still that fast, wow how amazing.

however i do believe you choose the right host, i've never heard anything bad about Hostgator.

you can see their uptime here:

Problem with findmyhosting's uptime chart is that you have 1 minute in downtime it registers it as an hour.

Another factor most people don't realize about hosts is there is no uptime %

Every host has many servers. Each server has a different uptime percentage. So a host has as many uptimes as servers. Many hosting companies don't even host their web hosting site on the same network as they sell hosting on.

I have had problem lately with being alerted by both alertra and siteuptime if a server had a problem. Luckily siteuptime replied telling me the e-mail’s get timed out when sending to my cell phone. I fixed this problem by setting up an email forwarding accounts. I have the alert go to the forwarder which then forwards to my cell phone email. Just figured this out recently, it seems to have solved the problem. Did a few test emails, and actually received the alerts!

That's not true. 100% uptime is possible, it's just going to cost a lot of money.
