phpBB vs IPB
If you were to make forums for your website and would want to choose a free forum software, which would it be? phpBB or IPB?

You shouldnt really have the poll set so you can vote for both of the answers
Anyway, I think IPB is the best free board out there at the moment and Im currently using it... however I still dont like it as much as vB which I think looks a lot better than any free board on a business site.Steve

I have no idea what IPB is, but I've always been a phpBB person myself.

Right now I think IPB is the best, when PhpBB comes out with version 2.2 it may be the best.

Personally I think that ikonBoard is the best perl board, and will be the best PHP Board as soon as ikonBoard PHP Lite is released

I do think phpBB 2.2 will trump IBF though. I also think that phpBB has a superior community with a more inviting athmosphere than invision.

I prefer IPB. It's faster, more stable, has more user and administrative features, puts less of a load on the server, and the default theme looks nicer (though phpBB2's is good too). They're both great free forums though.

invision, because phpBB isn't finished yet.
Plus, Invision has more functions.

From solely a system resouce usage standpoint, have there been any tests between these 2 free boards as to which one is more efficient?

IPB should have lower resources needed (less MySQL calls).

I'll use whichever is available as a *nuke module which, I believe, is only phpBB at the moment. Should IPB become available as a module, I'd rather use it for at least 1 of my sites because the default theme matches more closely to the site theme.

Invisionboard is my favorite. I like it better from a user end standpoint than VB for one reason: It doesn't mark an entire board and everything in it's sections as read just because you visit the index page. Maybe that is just how they have this board and other vb's set. But if I don't have time to visit one section, sometimes I don't even want to visit the board unless I have a lot of time because I don't want it all marked as read next time I come back.

Invision Board owns phpbb2. Simply because Matt Mecham is the best PHP developer of all time, and will always produce the best for his scripts.
ibplanet.com has 98765678x more resources than phpbb could ever imagine itself having.

PS. Invision's been around LONGER than phpbb. Because the same scripter (Matt) was the lead programmer for IkonBoard back in the Perl days, and he just migrated his skills over. So technically, Matt has 10x more experience than phpBB, as well as his followers.
Just go to the phpBB main forums, they have half the support. It's silly to compare in my opinion- or maybe I'm just blind.
