Hi Charlie,
I agree with you, I deal with all different kinds of web hosts on daily basis, and I now expect terrible support for large web hosting companies.

I would suggest looking into www.hostingsolutions.net

Their company is the perfect size I like to deal with. Not too big, not too small. I've had my NT account with them for a long time, and their support is excellent. I've developed a great relationship with them, and I am certain you could too.

I'm a very unhappy Interland user, for all the reasons mentioned elsewhere. So I've tried the "big host" route.

Now I'm thinking of switching to a smaller outfit where I can work directly and efficiently with key people to solve any problems that arise.

Like Hosting Matters, but with ASP and Microsoft Access support.

Two questions for y'all:

1) Any thoughts on the "right" size for a host? Interland is obviously too big...but what would you say makes a host "too small"? Is it lack of redundant connections? Lack of 24/7 support? What would be on your list?

2) Any suggestions on where to find a good ASP-capable, Microsoft Access-capable host that's the "right" size? I've looked at several and been unimpressed. I'd love to hear some first-hand accounts from the ASP crowd.

Thanks!

cdarling,
I can give some input to your first question but I don't have any experience with NT hosts to answer your second question.

I think what would make a company too small would be an under staffed Network Operations Center (NOC).

Some smalls companies out source the NOC and concentrate on customer service and support so they could give you their focused attention and develop a working relationship.

You might want to consider looking for company that leases their NT box from a large NOC or a reseller that offers you an NT solution.

Cool

I think in this case size isnt really the question you could have a big company thats lighting fast or a small company thats very slow. It could also be the oppisite way..the real question boils down to how good the tech support is, and for that you can only get referrals read reviews and contact reviewers.

If it was as simple as size finding a good host wouldnt be so *blinking* hard LOL
