How do you ftp into a new cpanel account which is on shared ip and the DNS has not completed yet.

I know you can do it within cpanel but is it possible to access via FTP ?

The main FTP account (IE main CPanel username/password) should be accessible from the shared IP. And further accounts should be accessed like this:

username: ftpuser@yourdomain.com
password: passwordhere

We use PureFTPd, but I am pretty sure it's the same with ProFTPd.

Yeah - works like that with Proftpd also, another way is by sever name->host.domain.com and login with user and pass.

Its not working for me.
I am using proftpd

when I try to log on via ftp username is:

cpanelaccountusername@domain.com

Password : cpanelaccountpassword
host : shared IP

I get a password error

MBC are you sure this works on proftp ? also can you elaborate what you said ?

did you try just the username (without the @domain) and the password, ftping to the shared IP address?

Akashik, Yes That is the first thing I did. I can login to the main account ip but not to the shared accounts it says password error

I presume you're on some multiple domain reseller account then? Not sure what's up then. Witrh luck someone that offers that will drop past. Might be worthwhile mentioning your control/server specs so people have a better idea of what they're looking at.

A little late, but I like to use this as an example on public FAQ rather than using the IP. To test it click -> ftp://fire.particlespace.com (if you are using IE).
