I've never seen GPU video encoding work that well. GPU/CUDA encoding codecs just don't seem to offer as much quality. Running encoding off of a GPU will also run up the amount of power your system consumes.

i need a good dedicated server for heavy video encoding with ffmpeg!
now i have some hosters which fits my needs but i don't know which CPU is best for this...
here are my options:
Intel i7 2600K
Intel i7 4770k
Intel Xeon E3-1230v2 3.30GHz
Intel Xeon E3-1270v2 3.50Ghz
i will use ffmpeg for encoding a live tv stream and i want to use 2-3 streams per server if possible.
maybe someone got some experience with ffmpeg and CPUs?
thanks in advance
Instead why don't you look at Zencoder.com, encode.com, AWS Live Transcoding etc? Configuring, managing & troubleshooting becomes pain after while.
I had 2 encoding server, but then switched to Zencoder, each of cloud service gives you accurate job report which you can dig easily for troubleshooting. Most file Types are automatically supported & they upgrade their infrastructure regularly to instantly support new formats. And they do have best of presets.
dediport, those machines are looking neat, and the tower case is looking somewhat different than the usual models too. Seems like a quad card in there picking up cable or satellite feeds, what kind of a card is it.
we have used ffmpeg but 8 feeds took at least a minimum of i7-2600k cpu.
for the OP, whichever cpu has higher score as per cpubenchmark , that will give you good result. I doubt anyone using gpu for encoding .
