Ahoy, I'm NSONE's CEO. Definitely give our free tier a try. We do not feature lock at all in the free tier -- the whole point is to give *everyone* access to an enterprise class globally distributed DNS platform with true GSLB.
There's a middle ground between our free ("Personal") tier and the first paid plan ("Business"): just stick with the Personal plan and pay overages monthly for usage beyond what's included (which is already a *lot* compared to other providers).
And of course just let us know if we can assist with config or whatever else! There are a lot of capabilities in the platform, and we love to help out and get feedback.
First - many thanks for your reply. We've got a couple of domains on a "vanilla" config right now, and I already see huge improvement in resolution times. So, on that front - already super happy. We're working on getting some VMs spun up in a few facilities around the globe this evening, and then we'll tackle the geo-targeting.
Love the control panel - but one small suggestion/piece of feedback : make it a little easier when adding a domain, to know which DNS servers you need to use at the registrar. I mean, it's not difficult to go look at the NS records, but, why do that if you don't have to? =)
Glad things are off to a good start! We put a lot of effort (and investment) into performance.
You can see the list of DNS servers to use with your registrar on the zone configuration page (just click on the zone in the zone list, and then the servers are shown on the left). That said -- noted, and ticketed. We'll see if we can make it a bit more obvious which servers you should use for each zone.
Just get in touch with our support team (or me) if we can help as you start tinkering with the more advanced stuff.
