    IPKVM Vs DRAC

    Dear All,

I am not a IT guru and thus require your help/advise regarding a network deployment which I am about to do in US. I am buying 5 servers for a softswitch application. However I will only have Telnet and SSH access. Hence I have 2 to 3 basic questions.

    1) Is telnet and SSH enough for monitoring and troubleshooting remote serves, to whom I wont have access at all. For checking bandwidth and stuff I will use PRTG graph though.

    2) Which one of them is the best option either using IP KVM or Using DRAC cards. 1 attached to each servers. that means total 5..

3)Does every DRAC card requires a separate IP and will I have to arrange that IP from the colocation?

Since it is up to the top again, I would like to ask for server rental, are you satisfied to have the host setting up a CentOS for you and provide you the iDrac or IPMI to let you start everything from scratch?

I've split the new post and responses to it to their own thread.

    1) I prefer mostly some nice UI, here observium does a great job for me. SSH and SNMP should be fine.

    2) a DRAC/ILO solution gives in my opinion a much better control to the Server. The downside is in case you have 1x PDU and it's down you don't have access

    3) Yes DRAC needs a own IP. But take care!! don't use public IP's unless you have a proper configured Firewall. I would suggest you to take a cheap VPN Server (Firewall) as Cisco ASA 5505, it provide enough Ports to connect your DRAC's assign them private IP's and acces them trough VPN only.
