    Does anyone use TeamViewer?

I am looking to set it up on my fathers laptop because he is always running into problems. I would like to have his computer a server-only as he won't be connecting to any remotes.

    Is this possible?

    Is this decent software?

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

It's pretty decent, I've used it over the years helps out when you want to help fix someones computer who is a far drive away.

The nice thing about it is how it has a very simple way to connect to another computer.

I have a neighbor that frequently needs a hand for somewhat simple configuration issues and file transfers, and Teamviewer makes that easier than a phone call or visiting after work a few times a month. Works very well.

Is there a server-only configuration? Just getting him to get it installed is going to be hard enough (I live 150 miles away) so I want to make it simple for him to get it on his computer.

The Host application on their website seems like it's a client based on the description. I don't understand why it's called host.

You start the app on the machine you want to connect to, and it generates a pair of codes; one for the system and one is like a password. Your copy should save the "system" code, which is his PC, and the PIN/password is generated new each time. He gives you the info, you connect, do what you need, and disconnect.

For him to connect to someone else, he'd have to ask them for that info. Pretty unlikely. For them to connect, they'd have to get him to start the app, generate the codes and hand them out. Also seems unlikely.

He will never be connecting to anyone else.

Can I just give him my username and password so I can add it as one of "my computers?"

He only can use the one program he needs for work....Other than that he can barely turn the computer on.

....and I don't feel like driving that far to install this for him.

I installed the main packages and it asked a bunch of questions, and I had to create a username and password....He would have his laptop out the window before he was finished haha

I have it set up on my daughter's pc. I've used it for years. Love the app. I keep it running in the background of her pc so I can just log in and help her. The chat feature is great too when needing to provide instructions or comments.

I've used it quite a bit with clients and it's been great. Just out of curiosity, has anyone used any other programs with similar capabilities?

Teamviewer is my bread and butter.. we use it from time to time and help out our customers... when they run into issues. It's better than any other competitors software out there and a +1 from me.
