I always found Nginx outperform LiteSpeed under high traffic. Under heavy traffic, Nginx tends to do better with speed and resource management.

    +1 Nginx

  3. If you are hosting customers, Open LiteSpeed is a terrible idea (no .htaccess, no modsec, no control panel plugins, etc).

So you better get nginx in front of Apache.

Or pay for LiteSpeed enterprise licences.

    Depends on what your needs.

If it's one customer for the server, Nginx.

If your hosting numerous customers, free options are not the best...BUT it is possible to host many with Nginx, but it is more work and does require extra knowledge to make sure everything is secure and working.

I am aware...just depends on the user and end-users needs...which is the most important.

    Multiple customers, easy hosting...apache/cpanel

    Specialized hosting...Nginx or other options.

Ultimately depends on the customers needs. Free is not always the best option.

I've been using nginx for almost 3 years. A few months ago I thought why shouldn't I give the benefit of a doubt to openlitespeed and I set up my server with: mysql 5.5, openlitespeed 1.2.8, dovecot, phpmyadmin, roundcube, postfixadmin, postfix. I must say I am impressed on how openlitespeed handles things for me and the web interface it's great. Very intuitive and if you have to spare a couple of hours to read the documentation it will worth it. Nginx is good, I'm not saying it's bad, but openlitespeed is more comfy. And if you know what it needs to be done when configuring it, openlitespeed will outperform any of its competitors.

But yet, high-traffic sites rely on nginx

I totally agree with you. And you know why: most people tend to change things only when it's something broken. It's a good way of judging things but it's not always the best way.
The best way is to adapt and take advantage of any opportunity of trying something new.
Like I said, I was using nginx for some time and after testing openlitespeed I wouldn't go back to nginx.
Don't trust me, try it for yourself. Give openlitespeed the benefit of a doubt.

Go with nginx over Open Litespeed.
