Not sure where you're getting your information from, just wanted to point out performance servers networking configurations http://www.rackspace.co.uk/cloud/servers/pricing

btw bandwidth and network throughput are different things.

@op Have you reached out to Rackspace account managers or billing to get this resolved?

Well, last time I used CloudServers, few months ago, our 512MB instances were capped at ~30Mbps. Also this article explains my numbers:

    http://cloud.dzone.com/articles/rack...cloud-outbound

    And this current info:

    http://www.rackspace.com/cloud/servers/pricing/

And I see they've changed it meanwhile, now the 1GB flavor is lowest and capped to 200Mbps aggregate with a funny little footnote about how much of that aggregate is capped for public outbound (40% or for the 1GB flavor that is 80Mbps). So the caps are a bit higher than what I quoted above, but still there and lower than some much cheaper providers have (eg. the already mentioned Linode).

No, they're the same because they're measured in data per time unit, eg. Mbps, but some people, including you, seem to use bandwidth in place of traffic as data per time unit of one month.

EDIT: No, it seems I was right, they still have the lower instances available, just renamed them to "Standard" tier, and the 512MB ones, that we had, are still capped, but now to 40Mbps (public outbound):

Just as a note, the old servers are officially deprecated I believe and ultimately will be phased out in preference of these new ones. That's the impression I got from my recent emails from Rackspace announcing the new ones, at least.

Just because they use the same measurement does not make them the same Bandwidth refers to the maximum. Throughput is the actual amount going through.

It would seem you're correct "The amount of aggregate outbound bandwidth across all attached network interfaces (PublicNet, ServiceNet, Cloud Networks). The maximum amount of outbound public Internet bandwidth is limited to 40% of the aggregate limit. Inbound traffic is not limited. Host networking is redundant and bandwidth is delivered over two separate bonded interfaces, each able to carry 50% of the aggregate limit."

    No.

Bandwidth is width of the band. It's a measure of data per unit of time:

In computer networking and computer science, bandwidth,[1] network bandwidth,[2] data bandwidth,[3] or digital bandwidth[4][5] is a measurement of bit-rate of available or consumed data communication resources expressed in bits per second or multiples of it (bit/s, kbit/s, Mbit/s, Gbit/s, etc.).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandwidth_(computing)

Bandwidth is used in the hosting industry erroneously as GB per month to describe data transfer cap.

It only becomes a maximum if you average it out to a month and then consider it as a cap for that time frame (month). But in its nature it is still a measure of data transfer in a unit of time.
