SysAdmin In Need for A Dirty WHM Job

    Hello guys and Happy 2014

I need your help with the following issue:

There is a Centos VPS with Cpanel and WHM on a solus vm slave that refuse to work properly: SSH is not working, host command is not returning:

    root [/]# host google.com
;; connection timed out; trying next origin
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
    root [/]#

I tried to change the dns system from bind to nsd but got stuck in the middle. Sites that are hosted on this VPS are reachable but ajax calls, domain calls are not working.

Cpanel , whm can be accessed just fine but no ssh. Also Solus access is offered

I can't recall what caused this but I suppose there may be an automatic update or something.

Check /etc/resolv.conf. It should contain dns resolvers.

    Hello,

Yes, you can change it to Google or OpenDNS resolvers and try.

    ~]# cat /etc/resolv.conf
    nameserver 208.67.220.220
    nameserver 208.67.222.222

    OR

    ~]# cat /etc/resolv.conf
    nameserver 8.8.8.8
    nameserver 8.8.4.4

    Hello,

You are too new on the board to PM. My guess is one of the following.

    1) on the VM, look at /etc/nsswitch.conf. Inside this file is a Hosts section. Hosts should be set to "files dns"

    2) On the VM, see what you have for ip tables "iptables --list" if you have lots of rules, try setting the firewall off.
