How to transfer domain to another webhost?

I'm confused. I registered a domain with Namecheap, now I'd like to host with Stablehost.

They let me choose 3 options:
I will let Stablehost register a domain
I will transfer my domain to Stablehost
    I will update my nameservers

What's the difference between the latter two?

EDIT: Both the latter options asks for my EPP code. However, Namecheap won't let me transfer domain within 60 days of registration. I don't understand, isn't there an option where I don't have to transfer? Keep my web hosting with Stablehost and domain at Namecheap

This will transfer the domain name registration from NameCheap to StableHost. This may incur the cost of a 1 year renewal.

You update your nameservers at NameCheap to point to Stablehost's name servers, away from your current provider.

The transfer would essentially be moving all control of your domain from Namecheap to Stablehost.

The last option would just be 'pointing' your domain to your hosting account yet it'll remain registered at Namecheap and that's where you'd continue to make whois changes, renew it etc.

Personally I would just update the Nameservers. Stablehost will provide these for you. No matter how good the host there are multiple benefits to having your domain separate from your host account.

I'd like that too. Just updating the nameservers. But do both options require my EPP code? (I'll have to wait a whole month then..)

Just updating your nameservers at NameCheap does not require your EPP code. It is only needed when transferring the registration to a different registrar.

No, the last one should not. Once you have the nameservers from your host just login to Namecheap and add them in the DNS section.

@tbenoit is clearly quicker than me .. twice

That's strange. Because it doesn't matter which option I choose on Stablehost, they all lead to a page where I have to enter the EPP code..
Shame, I guess I have to look into another host.

Hmm so it does. I tried.

I would contact them and explain. I'm pretty sure that shouldn't be happening.

If you want to go with them I would take the suggestion made by @Loon and reach out to them about it. Maybe it is a simple error in their order form they can correct quickly.

In either case, if you do not wish to transfer your domain's registration to another registrar then do not give them your EPP code. If they continue to try to get it, I would recommend you find a different hosting provider.
