100tb.com wiped my dedicated server!!
Hello,
Your server was regrettably re-purposed for another client as there were delays in system updates after your Abuse issues (Ticket #27653996). This was regrettably our fault, in order to address this we would like to provide you a new server in place of this old server. Please let me know if you would like to proceed with a new serer being set up.
Regards,

A system updates delay - took down my server. two year works. even i have some of the sites backup but they are not fully updated. my website have 100k unqiues a day. its a video streaming site. those video files are large and not backup. what kind of service is that. I really hope thomas or rus foster can ask their engineer to recover my data as much as possible. not just giving me a new server and "sorry"

I was with 100tb previously. Your first mistake is signing up with them. I would honestly start looking at this from a legal perspective. I smell a lawsuit in the making.

Sorry to hear about your experience with them. At least they admit they were wrong, many providers wouldn't.
Let's hope they are willing or able to recover your data, but I wouldn't count on it.» www.InstantDedicated.com - Online in no time

As I stated, contact a lawyer and sue them. I would love to see them go under.

Those data are valuable. usually i backup the entire server with cpanel every two days into the second harddisk. sources are saved into my local comp but some of the database are not backup.
the most valuable thing is my indexed links in google. my websites have around 70% search engine traffic. even i rebuild the website. i rebuild the database. it will takes time for google to index it again. all previous links will be useless since the database records changed.
its not just data lost. it also impact my source of traffic in future. websites spent years to build up their visitors and seo with search engine

I have taken the "sue them" path a few times and never has it really benefited me. I know you are hurt right now and there maybe real damages but I would suggest to pick yourself up and move forward.

It doesn't matter how much you claim how important your data is. If it's not backed up, it's not important.

Check your T&C's with the supplier - I'd expect you will have agreed to a clause saying that they're not liable for any data loss etc.

Dear neverknowhk,
I completely understand your frustration regarding this issue. We are confident we can work out an appropriate solution to resolve this situation amicably.
While we acknowledge we are not without fault, I think it’s fair to point out that this situation is a rare exception. We are quite proud of our track record and the tremendous growth that we have achieved over the years which has been almost entirely by word of mouth (referrals). This doesn’t happen by accident and involves delivering a reliable infrastructure, cutting-edge hardware and services, and an excellent Support team. However, if and when we make a mistake we own it but more importantly, we fix it.
I know you are already in contact with our Support team and that we are actively working on this issue. I would like to touch base with you personally and discuss next steps forward. I think you will find that we are eager to get the situation resolved and get you back up and running.
I will be in touch with you asap. If you have a specific contact number that you prefer to be reached by please send me a PM otherwise I will use the contact information we have on file.
Best regards,Clint Reeves

You must be reading a whole different thread....
I'm sorry to hear. I just had a site wiped from another host. I kept saying every single day that I was going to do a backup of it. I'm just glad it wasn't too important and only took seven hours or so to rebuild. I'd imagine you're in a much worse boat.
You can't bankrupt a company of that magnitude because they deleted the data on your server by an accident. The law would not allow this to happen. I cannot begin to grasp how you can assume otherwise. It doesn't even make sense.
Maybe if they go around doing it for fun to multiple people.█ █ █

Looks like a human error somewhere but this is pretty bad on 100TB's part. Unfortunately a law suit would only cost you $$ and not do much here.
You should think about investing into a remote location backup, check the backup services offers section there are plenty of cheap storage providers. Don't make the same mistake twice, those backups cost a little more in the end but well worth not losing your important data

Accidents can and will happen so always keep an up-to-date offsite backup of your data if it is that important to you.

Till this day I don't understand how hosts wipe the wrong server. Every host, rather it's shared, vps or dedicated should have a system in place to prevent this from happening.
I'm sorry to hear you have to deal with a problem like this. Did you have backups that can be restored?▉▊ HostKoi Web Services LLC - Optimized Web Hosting, Reseller, VPS and Dedicated Servers.

I'm sure their TOS states that you're responsible for your own data, and they can't be liable for mistakes. Don't think getting a lawyer (like others are suggesting), is going to help you. Just ask for a refund, and find a new hosting provider.

Sounds to me like they made a mistake and are trying to make up for it. And yet.. you still run to WHT to badmouth them.
It's your fault for not having up to date backups.
It's your fault for not keeping up on abuse issues.
Boo ****in' hoo.

Offsite Backup
TOS for every dedicated server that I have seen states that the provider is not responsible for data loss of theft in ANY situation.
A lawyer would laugh at you.
If you only backed up to a second hard drive in the same system, you were asking for something to happen. If you thought that it was an acceptable backup system you should not be managing servers.
If you have a 1 server with a company A then you buy another server with company B to backup to as well as for your redundant services. The second server doesn't have to have the horsepower of the main server, but it needs to be with another company on another network in a different part of the world.
When my company places a server in a colo we place an identical server in a second colo from another company. Routers handle l2TP/IPSec VPN between the sites and backups are simple from there. If you virtualize it's even easier.
A secure backup system can be set up easily without hardware routers and rented servers. All in the software configuration.Last edited by bds1904; 01-09-2014 at 09:57 PM.

HI all,
Thanks for all the comments.
I want to clear things up in here. For the people saying it is my fault that I didn't follow up the abuse ticket. I can tell you that you are wrong. There was a communication problem with the ticketing system in 100tb. I never received an email regard to the abuse (link removal) but as soon as they restricted the public access of my server. I talked to the support, they said they suspended account and I will have to wait until Monday (happened on friday) so the billing staff can sort it out for me. Immediately I came to WHT for seek for assistant and Rus Foster directed me to Thomas in here and solved the problem. Server back online even in the weekend without any waiting. but 4 days later, they told me there is a system delay of MY abuse ticket (i thot i replied 4 days ago) and server is wiped.
Reference: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showpo...9&postcount=13
If anyone still in doubt that I was the person to blame for the abuse incident, I have all the black and white. I am happy to post it here if necessary
For the people saying i didnt do backup. I do have backup for some of the websites but some of them I just cant back up everyday. Its too large. it has 400GB of streaming files or photos
Either I do backup or I didnt at all. a hosting company shouldn't have this kind of mistakes. Clients do all the backup but that doesnt mean they can let this kind of accident happen so easily and blaming back the client's fault. This thread is not talk about the method of making backup.
ThanksLast edited by neverknowhk; 01-10-2014 at 01:36 AM.
