Domain goes to a completly different website when https instead of http?
Hi there,
I don't know what section I should post this in so ill just post it here and hopefully someone can help me lol.
I've got a domain, say example.com.
I visit my website by going to http://example.com...
Now when I put https://example.com, I get directed to a completely different website?
Just wondering if someone could explain this to me or help me out here.
Thank you.

When a visitor connects through SSL the request matches a different Apache virtualhost. There's no reason (other than some control panel conventions) why that should lead to the same website, in fact traditional setups deliberately keep the ssl and non-ssl sites separate (eg. public_html vs private_html).

I think that was a bit too technical for the question/post-count.
This is not uncommon if you are on a shared IP and do not have an SSL certificate for your site installed on the server.
If you want to use HTTPS to visit your site securely, you need to have an SSL certificate installed on the server for that domain.
- Do you have one?
In order to have an SSL certificate installed on the server for that domain, you need to have a dedicated IP assigned to the domain.

That problem can happen if you don't have a dedicated ip address for your site/domain.

That depends. If you're on cPanel (very likely) and an OS that supports it (likely) then you don't need a dedicated IP to install your own SSL

Sometimes clients try to install their own SSL's within cPanel. It can mess things up and this can be the side effect.
