Lightbulb Is it OK to remove .conf files in /tmp/awstats folder?

We are looking to reduce our disk space usage. We've got a lot of .conf files in the awstats folder such as "awstats.azam.net.conf", one for for each domain name, and were wondering if these are safe to remove? If we deleted them, there wouldn't be a problem accessing our future AW Statistics would there?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

It is recommended to remove the .conf files only for those domains which are not in use. If you want to remove unwanted domain(s) from AWStats, then you can remove “awstats.domain.com.conf” files. Once, you remove these folders, you may no longer be able to see stats of that particular domain only. However, there should not be problem in accessing AWStats of other domains.

Thanks so much for the helpful reply.

Just one other: in terms of webalizer, is if fine to remove the following if one wishes to view statistics for that domain name in future:

    dns_cache.db

    webalizer.current

    webalizer.hist

    index.html

    usage.png

Basically, are any essential files recreated if they are deleted?

It'd save a lot of time if one can just delete entire folders, rather than sifting through files to keep and delete.

    Thanks a million!

    Hello,

Kindly find the answers of your concerns as below:

dns_cache.db : It is a reverse DNS caching file for Webalizer. It is used for quicker reverse lookups. You can remove that file. Webalizer will simply recreate it when it needs it.

webalizer.current : It is a plain ASCII text file and the Webalizer saves and restores all internal data in a file named webalizer.current. It is used as current state data file. You can remove it, if you need to change configuration options and do it at the end of the month after normal processing of the previous month and before processing the current month.

webalizer.hist: Monthly history file for previous months.

index.html : It is a main summary page.

usage.png :: It is a graphic image containing logs of usage.

You can delete them all, actually. The next time Webalizer updates your stats, it will update the entire month’s stats. Deleting logs at the end of a month will save space.
