Email spam, need help.
We are experiencing high quantities of email spam leaving our server from random clients.
I am having issues finding out who's the culprit and I have tried everything I know to prevent this but no luck!
What I need is someone to take a look at our server to see what is causing it and to go through our settings to set up proper config to prevent further email
Also is there a alert of some sort which can be set up to warn me if something is suspicious.
I'd recommend posting in the systems management section and looking into hiring someone to manage the server(s).
Use CSF and it alert you when someone try to send mass email, you can investigate it and find if it is SPAM.
CSF is best yes as it emails you a list of "users" sending email. Also in PHP you can set the mail.log variable to a filename which it will log all the PHP scripts sending email.
Once that file has enough data you can open it up in notepad++ or any "vi" etc. and actually find the scripts sending emails alot.
Hope this helps as it helps us alot when one fails the other always does help.
I would firstly focus on hardening Exim and preventing spam from leaving the server in the first place.
CSF is best. it alerts when someone sending spam mail & it emails you a list of "users" sending email.
Are you using a panel to manage the server? If you are, you can usually set specific mail limits, as well as restrict traffic through the mail server.
