Offer great service and stay on top of things. This will equal word of mouth plus probably some advertising in forums that allow it. Also, it helps if you contribute to the community as well.

Have you tried posting in the advertising section? We've had a lot of success posting around here. You should also try to find a niche that fits you and to try to dominate that niche.

Also make sure that you're connecting with a community. So that means actually participating in forums, adding to the discussions, and providing useful feedback or advice. Reputation means a lot.

Excellent service and fast response times helps greatly with word of mouth advertising. Advertising here on WHT brings in clients as well. We've also had a ton of success with local advertising. All 3 facets will bring you clients that pay their hosting bills. Web Hosting You'll Brag About!

I think the key has always been support - making sure issues are resolved quickly and professionally. Also the comments above about building a community/reputation - it does build trust for your customers/potential customers.

While it is important to offer a quality product, you do need to get clients in the door first. The SEO/social media plan is sound, but can take a long time.

Does your company site have a blog? That's a great way to begin the social media experience and start bringing viewers to your site. It may take some time before this begins to pay off, but people will choose you when they trust you. A blog can build that sort of relationship. But you have to keep it updated with good content and communicate with your readers when they attempt to communicate with you.

Offering quality free stuff will help get people to your blog.

Offer good quality services. Put effort into the business. If you do a good job, people will start to recommend you - whether that be on forums, offline, blogs, etc.

If things start out slow, don't be discouraged. Building up a strong customer base and making healthy revenue can take years.

Be competitive. Make yourself stand out. Find a niche in the hosting market and excel in that niche. Strive not to let any company, not even those companies that have been open in business for years and years, shine brighter than you.

You'll find success that way. If you open up as a cookie cutter hosting company offering the same old plain offerings as the standard sea of hosting providers, it'll take you a very, very long time before you get anywhere.

You really need to specialize in one specific group of clientele. Many hosts out there are just'general' service providers while others are geared toward specific things like -blogging- or -video streaming-

The only person who is going to sell yourself is you, talk about your business to anyone who is willing to listen. The more it is out there, the more likely you'll strike a match.

I agree you should niche yourself; however, sometimes this can be difficult in the beginning. The niche that you may think is best might not end up being the niche you pull in. Once you have some clients, survey them, interact with them and find out how you can help them better along with people in their industries.

Google Adwords, WHT, Facebook/Twitter... But you need to be aware that only a good AD will sell. This will not instantly give you a new customers, you need to have something different than the others. Staff. Act professionally and provide a good service/support. As a webmaster I always looked for good support and good uptime. The clients to pay their bills, if you're strict with the delays and suspend accounts. Not pleasant, but it gets the job done.

Don't give more time to unpaid clients, just suspend them.
It can be done automatically by WHMCS.
Ask existing clients for monthly subscription for their monthly payments.

Best is to target a small niche. Just fighting in the deep hosting waters is not going to get you anywhere. - Web Hosting with DDoS Protection | Shared & Reseller in Europe/North America
