    UK VPS - Decisions, Decisions

    Hi Folks,

After my horrendous experience with 64u.com it's time to move on.

I'm currently trying to decide between several UK VPS providers.

There's quite a few threads on this subject but I'm after some recent feedback.

I'm not opposed to OpenVZ (depending on the host) however Xen and KVM seem to be the preferred virtualisation approach these days, how true is that and is it important?

Unmanaged is fine and SSDs are a bonus but not a necessity.

I'm currently torn between gbservers - minivps - xensmart - soladrive - tmz

    Your thoughts are appreciated.

What type of issues did you experience with 64u? Also there are many providers in the UK, but not a lot of them offer KVM in comparison to the US.

Do you have any requirements in terms of budget, RAM, control panel etc?

For unmanaged UK/EU based VPS, I would suggest to look at Ramnode and Digital Ocean.

Linode. A very tight operation that prioritises performance. Earlier this year they overhauled virtually all their servers across all six datacentres to new hardware, doubling resources (including CPU cores). Their custom control panel and LongView statistics are also industry-leading IMO.

Another vote for Linode. I moved my VPS to them 2 months back (in their London site), and couldn't be happier for the price.

In a nutshell, my VPS has been offline for ~14 days zero communication.

I think 4GB RAM will be sufficient for now. Already have an external VPS cPanel license.

Ramnode is a contender however I'm a bit concerned about this

Got in touch with Digital Ocean however they only allow 1 IP per "droplet"

Forgot about Linode! I'm very tempted, wondering if its worth the extra $ - Read a lot of positive reviews.

Made my decision even harder as they have a UK location!

Nothing really set in stone, I would say budget to hover around ~£45 / $74

    imitech,

What issues do u have with your current provider that's caused your outages? One thing with OpenVZ if you hit your limits, it can start shutting things down!

XEN/KVM wouldn't do that, or a cloud server either which is the same as a vps but scalable.

with this budget you can purchase a dedicated server.

If you pay decent price, you should get good vps from reputable provider regardless of virtualization platform.
For the same price, I would choose xen/kvm over openvz though

I have to also vote for Linode, I've been with them for almost three months now, could not be happier.

Cpanel works great with Linode too, they have even set up a guide on their site.
