Site -> IRC chat

kay this prob doesn't fit here, but i can't find a more suitable place to fit this question.

Iam looking for a ' free' chatscript, that connects a site to an irc server so you can chat from the site on irc without having and irc client installed.
JApplet or something that resembles that name, does the job, but doesn't work for winXP, Win2k, Linux, Mac users.

Does anyone know a good and preferable free script that connects to the irc-network on AT LEAST all windows machines.

Thanx in advance

I use jIRC from www.jpilot.com

The only bad thing is that if you don't register it, it echo's
something like "register this applet" every time they talk in a channel
but not in private messages.

Other than that it's pretty nice, you can change the colors of it, etc, worth a look.

IRCG

Hi,

Sure your post fits here! PHP has a very nice interface to gate with IRC. http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.ircg.php is an extensive manual on its use.

Basically, you ircg_pconnect() and use the other functions to manipulate joins and such once you're connected. You can display the output very easily using any post to browser method you like.

Again, PHP shines! It's server driven and doesn't require any JAva or whatnot - almost guaranteed to work. Just need builtin IRCG support (compile time).

Cheers!
Saeven

Yeah it was JPilot that doesn't work on a mac, some linux distributions and windows XP etc. So i'd prefer not using that

Saeven > That php stuff sounds very good! It will prob run on any system. Too bad i don't know anything about PHP yet. Maybe i should ask someone to program it for me

You could learn from the PHP manual or pay someone to make it

Don't pay it's way too easy and a good learning experience. PHP's learning curve has that you learn as much as the effort expended to learn it - which is something nice compared to languages like 8088 or Scheme where you might read a long time and never catch the paradigm behind it.

Go learn

I've been looking at the IRCG manual on php.net and it seems very easy to use/manipulate, unfortunately you need the IRCG addon installed to use it, and my host says he's not allowed to interface, in any way, with IRC on his servers
