Is this sort of server possible for my budget?

    Hi,

I'm looking at getting a dedicated server for storage purposes only.

Spec wise it doesn't have to be good at all really, Any atom CPU will do. around 2GB of ram.

The main thing i need is around 3TB of storage, Possibly even 4TB.

Not too bothered about location but Europe would be better.

I don't need any special software, No control panels etc.

Looking to only spend around $60?

Is that sort of thing possible?

    Thanks

Budget Providers including OVH, Hetzner, online.net and OneProviders France Location would probably suit you best.

Budget providers? For 2GB of RAM, 3 TB of storage, and an Atom?

You could choose from just about anyone, tbh.

But I'd still agree with Criot that OVH, Hetzner, and online.net are the three best.

You could probably get like an Atom server with a single 3TB or 4TB drive for that price. However, its always recommended to have large storage solutions like that under raid unless you can afford to lose the data temporarily.

It's a pretty tight budget; however, doable. Get in touch with a few providers and see if it's something they will entertain for you.

Let us know who you decided to go with, best of luck!

Agreed with the above. Tight budget but definitely doable. Biggest concern is the 3TB HDD, because many providers offer Atoms for as low as $40/month now.

You did not mention anything about your bandwidth requirements.

If you need huge bandwidth than your budget is too small.

these prices are all VAT included, so something that is 39 euros wouldn't be $53.50, it'd be ~$45.

    there's an i7 920 w/ 12gb of RAM and 3TB of HDD space for 39 euros

or an i7 950 w/ 12GB of RAM and 4TB of HDD space for 41 euros

    or an i7 975 w/ 12GB of RAM and 4.5TB of HDD space (3x1.5) for 45 euros

and there's an i7-3770 with 16GB of RAM and 2x3TB drives at 50 euro, which would be just about exactly at $60

Thanks for the replys, Them ones on robot.your-server.de seem very cheap, What are they like?

Bandwidth just needs to be about 2TB.

How does that website work with the price reductions, They go down in price at the end of that time, Also how long is their setup time?

They are fine, they are just reselling servers that people have ordered and then handed back after x amount of months.

Your bandwidth allowance would be fine for the server, setup time depends but is usually pretty quick as these are servers that have ready sitting to be setup.

The price reduces however you will find that the above listed servers are nearly as low as they are going to go before someone will purchase the server.

Just remember that it is unmanaged. They will only support the hardware problem and network.

    Thanks for the advice.
