Nilehoster vs Intreppid vs Awknet vs ??? Ddos protection

    Hey guys,

I've been tooling around looking for some affordable DDos protection. My budget is around $250ish.

    I am looking for an

    e3 1230
    24-32gb ram
    1tb hdd
    120gb ssd
    100mb - 1gb nic
    10tb outgoing
    free incoming
    DDOS protection (at least 5gb/s)

    So far :

Intreppid - I've had a bad experience with Intreppid. Something was funky with my cpu on an e3 1270 machine and I didn't notice it until I left. I ran 2 game servers on it, and the cpu was capped constantly (90%) causing severe problems. When I left, I ran the same 2 game servers in an e3 1230 and it didn't push 60%. That leads me to believe something was amiss with the box I had. Also, when I was with them we had quite a bit of dropping clients which the staff could never figure out. That being said, support was fast, but I had to ask 3-4 times over the course of a week to even get my DDos monitor working.

All in all, I would have expected more for $300+ I was paying which is why I left. That being said, I also have read some pretty positive recent reviews, and even got an email from them saying any problems with their network are not cleared up. They did block all ddos's coming to me without me even noticing.

Awknet - I've seen some pretty bad reviews and they are actually more expensive than intreppid. I've read their support is near nonexistent.

CNServers - I had a bad experience with their network. Pretty slow cogent, as I recall. Also, slow ticket times of up to or over a day. Pretty expensive as well.

Nilehoster - Just saw these guys, I've never heard of them before and could find no reviews on them despite their claim to be in business since 2007. Anyone hear of them before?

    OVH - Heh.

Blacklotus - Too rich for my blood, and a friend recieved a decent DDos that fell in to the realm of what he was covered for, and they just nullrouted him. They said it was standard procedure despite him paying for even more DDos protection than what he was hit with.

Does anyone have any advice? Are there any companies I have missed trying yet? I would like to avoid resellers if possible.

    Thanks!

Null routes are only triggered if a DDoS attack is *larger* than the plan for which a customer has subscribed.

How is your network in the Texas datacenter? Do you have a test ip? Do you guarantee uptime? Do you have any reviews here? How would you compare your service to, for example, Intreppid? Comparable?

Well, I went with Nilehoster... and it may have been a mistake.

    The promises -

    4 hour setup
    24/7 support

It is now 8 hours later after payment. I had sent payment via skrill, and immediately put in a ticket that they forgot to add some ips I ordered. No reply to that ticket from 8 hours ago either. Finally their 24/7 phone number is now out of service, although I had talked to them 8 hours ago.

    I'll keep you updated.

We don't use Cogent on the IP range you had with us. So not sure where the Cogent thing is from. The slow replies are because you didn't submit tickets via ticket system, instead you sent the emails, that caused slower replies.

Good luck with finding a provider that suits your needs.

Took some time to get the ticket and email history with this former customer. All replies hardly took an hour not to mention a day. OP please get your facts straight before post any bad reviews. I now see the reason why you are not satisfied with all these providers.

Looks like it was an error in the deployment site, and an errant email that was the problem. It deployed several hours ago but either Gmail is being funky or something is up with their system.

Either way, it is up, as promised... and I learned to use their ticketing system instead of making phonecalls or their online chat message window.

I'll update after a couple weeks of service!

CNServers are good friends of ours, I can't say that they're bad.

Also, your budget is a tad low for free incoming bandwidth, two drives and at least 5Gbps protection.

Glad to see that they got things sorted out for you. Best of luck with Nilehoster!
