You should not start a vps company until you are aware of all types of virtualizations, the hosting market & other technicalities of handling virtual servers.

All those companies offering such cheap plans are overselling beyond imagination as they are very unrealistic & unsustainable prices.

You want to compete on 9 to 15 dollars per year?
Is there nothing else you are good at? singing? dancing? selling pencils on the street corner?
Getting hosting customers is not as easy as you think... There are many people out there trying to get the same customer as you.

Lots of oversellers out there already lol. Maybe change your business plan to offer a quality high performance offering :-) Those cheap companies come and go... the quality ones (Knownhost, Futurehosting etc) stick around and stay successful

Whoever offers such OpenVZ plans oversells by 6 to 8x atleast otherwise such deals would be a big loss maker.

Indeed. If you want to offer vps in that price then you will want to oversell your servers to great extent and it certainly affect performance of the server and thus results in many unhappy customer.

Its too competitive right now to start a VPS hosting business. I would suggest you built around the business with the type of services and offer VPS as a solution, so you got one stone kills 2 birds method.

That $10/yr plan is just ridiculous.

I can't speak for that company, but when I see things like that it just screams "we don't be here next week!"

I can imagine the hosts being excited by all that money coming in from signups, but the month after, where is the income to pay for their servers?
    Some useful tutorials for VPSes...
Set up an unmanaged Linux VPS to host websites
(avoid having to pay for cPanel)
Install a GUI on a Linux VPS with RDP (cheap alternative to paying for a Windows license if you need a basic remote workstation)

No it's not, not at all. All of those offers that we posted on that thread are completely sustainable and I've ran the numbers and everything before publishing it. We wouldn't make a habit of offering those plans forever though, it's just a promotion.

    Maybe for most, not us.

Well, from a customer POV it's certainly a LOT for your money, and I can't imagine it being sustainable, but obviously you know the costs better than me.

I hope it works out for you

If you say this than you are overselling (you know very well what I am talking about).

But you are right those days higher percent of consumers don't look at quality they just look at quantity (or if somebody else is using same thing) and after they are in and they have problems they are complaining, looking for another provider and at the end they will lose money because they were too cheap. (This is not about your company it is not my business what are you doing). In my case the most important thing is morality to do business, regarding relation between the customer and my company, some cases I am losing money but the morality it is still the main key for my way doing business.
