Weird behavior of Num Lock Key
Hi,
I have a sony VAIO laptop ( Windows7) for two years, the keyboard was working fine, until 3 days ago the Num Lock stopped working.
I checked the BIOS but there is no option for Num Lock key, so I tried all solutions bellow:
1-Change the "InitialKeyboardIndicators" value to 2 on both location:"HKEY_CURRENT_USERS" and "HKEY_USERS" but I noticed once
I reboot the I was not sure but one of the value reset to 0.
2-Put in "numlock.vbs" script in default users and curent user startup programs:
set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.SendKeys "{NUMLOCK}"
3- I found on google other values for "InitialKeyboardIndicators" under "HKEY_USERS", I tried them:
- When I entred the value:2147483648 it worked after restart but as soon as I pressed Num Lock key it stopped working.
- The other value: 2147483650 and 80000002 did not do any change .
4- Finally, I ran Microsoft "Fix it for me" and worked fine last night but this morning it is not.
Please do you have any other solution.
Thank you in advance.

Try the following
Switch on the on screen keyboard, then go to ClickOptions, select the Numeric Keypad check box, and then clickOK.
And try if that doesn't work
Control Panel
Ease Of Access Center
Make the keyboard easier to use
untick 'Turn On Mouse Keys'
I had the same problem a couple of years ago when i first got my laptop,█ Inventive Hosting █ UK | USA |SG | NL|Trading Since 2004

use the windows onscreen keyboard to test if num lock button is working fine within the OS itself.
it it does, go around and borrow a USB keyboard. Plug into the USB port of your laptop and test the num lock button again.
again, if it works, then it could be your num lock button hardware failure. try to check your keyboard hardware if still under warranty. otherwise, consider getting one online and change it yourself.
