Which is the best processor for a dedicated server

I'm wondering which of the below processors is the best for a dedicated server, doing general tasks: whm/cpanel/websites/databases, etc..

    I currently have: Intel Core2 Quad Q8200

I'm moving to a new host and have been given two options, the only difference being the processor:

    Intel® Core™ i3-2120 Processor - 3M Cache, 3.30 GHz
    Intel® Core™ E4500 - 2M Cache, 2.20 GHz

I have no issues with my Q8200 it's more than sufficient.

I have a feeling the i3 will be the best? but if the E4500 is better than the Q8200 then it would be sufficient and i could save money.

    It's important i don't take a performance hit through.

In addition, the server will be going from 2GB Memory to 4GB.

Both Intel Core2 Quad Q8200 and Intel® Core™ E4500 - 2M Cache, 2.20 GHz are pretty much the same class, however your current one is newer and has twice more cache also its FSB and clock speed are slightly better and also has 4 cores and the Intel® Core™ E4500 has just 2. If you want to upgrade go for Intel® Core™ i3-2120 Processor - 3M Cache, 3.30 GHz which is newer with smarter cache technology, however I am not entirely sure how much exactly it will make difference in the performance for you, better find some benchmark tests.

Sorry for the delayed response and thanks for the replies.

I put it on the back burner for a bit but now ready to upgrade, i have another processor to throw into the mix.

Based on cpubenchmark my current CPU is the best.

However i now have the option to upgrade to: Intel Xeon E3-1230

this looks like a massive jump?

I agreed with "simondynaboot" I'm also recommending Xeon class processors for general use. Fallow this link
