Anyone can recommend VPS software for a linux dedicated server? If there is a free one (open source), please highlight too. Thank you.

There's vserver and FreeVSD, but FreeVSD's site seems to be down at the moment... hmmmm... oh, and then there's also User Mode Linux ...

None is good, I tried them all. If you want something good. buy Virutozzo. I think their last promotion is 2750USD for 1.4 Ghz of CPU.

Vserver is getting better all the time. PSoft is currently beta testing it to be a part of HSPHERE.
Virtuozzo is light years beyond vserver, but they started from similar if not the same roots.
My personal recommendation would be to buy Virtuozzo if you were serious about offering it up for resale, but for your own hacking or isolating different parts of your own services then vserver is probably sufficient.

Vserver is not good for anything serious. I still got a server stuck at exchangecolo because of Vserver. Just don't bother with it, unless your server is at home or you'll probably start losing your sleep.
Go Virtuozzo. It's worth every penny.

$2750 is high too expensive anyhow. Any monthly low cost vds software, please recommend

commercial vds is too expensive. if you look at most vds providers, they charge prices not too far below rackshack's. thus, it is most likely that only people who are unaware of the low-cost dedi providers will sign up.
