Arrow Location with best connectivity to Africa (South) ?

    Hello,

We have a video streaming website in Brazil. Our main audience are Brazilians that live outside of Brazil.

We found out that many people from Angola visit our website, mostly because all of our content is in Portuguese and both Brazil and Angola speak portuguese.

We Have servers in the USA and Canada and also servers in the Netherlands and Germany. Connectivity from North America is horrible, since it has to pass through Europe first to reach Angola. Connectivity from the Netherlands and Germany is okay, but not great for 1080p streaming.

I believe there are submarine cables connecting Brazil and Angola, but having servers in Brazil is Out of question.

I am looking for a location that would be affordable (think cheap bandwidth) and also provide a good connectivity to Angola. I though about Portugal but I don't know if it would make that much of a difference in comparison with the Netherlands.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi,

Why hosting in Brazil is out of question ?

Can you give me an IP from Angola so I can run some ping tests ?

Bandwidth in Brazil is prohibitively expensive, you probably know. Plus, I just found out that even though Brazil and Angola have submarine cables interconnecting them, apparently traffic does not goes through it very often. Did a few tests, traffic is going from Brazil > New York > London > Angola .. 400ms of ping.

Anyway, I'm doing tests using this IP: 41.205.63.193

Angolan telecom is a monopoly (so national bandwidth is extremely expensive) and they depend on Portugal Telecom for everything. So, try Portugal. That's the cheapest and nearest bandwidth you will find to serve Angola.

Thanks for providing the test. Unfortunately anything above 180ms would not be good for live streaming. As I presumed, traffic from Brazil does not go straight to Angola, it passes through New York and London first. If it went from Brazil straight to Angola, it would be ideal.

@Topic: If anybody has another suggestions, please suggest so we can test them. The more the better (:

I think best routes are from UK:

    http://whiteafrican.com/wp-content/u...cables-map.jpg

You can try Redstation or other UK providers.

Or maybe France (ping from OVH):
    --- 41.205.63.193 ping statistics ---
7 packets transmitted, 7 received, 0% packet loss, time 6006ms
    rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 135.012/135.130/135.318/0.356 ms

Thats interesting. I got the same results from my dedicated at OVH Roubaix too, which seems pretty promising. Thanks for posting your results here and suggesting UK.

Can anyone that have a dedicated or VPS in UK please ping the the IP address 41.205.63.193 and post the results here?

    Thanks!
