Job description

Responsibilities:

•Call logging
•Providing user support via the 24/7 helpdesk with calls raised by telephone and email
•Proactive response to incidents within the hosting ecosystem
•Hands-on networking, including data centre cabling and patching, and switch configuration
•Building Windows and Linux servers, physical and virtual, on behalf of the design team
•Providing customer services of a non-technical nature
•This position includes overnight and weekend shifts on rotation.


Person requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile:

•Proven experience in a customer support environment
•High levels of customer service skills, including excellent telephone manner
•Confidence to deal with demanding customers and positively influence them
•Ability to learn new software quickly
•Ability to install and troubleshoot server and networking services
•Working experience of Windows Server including SQL Server, Exchange Server, IIS, Terminal Services/RemoteApp Services, Active Directory and Group Policy
•Working experience of Linux servers, including Ubuntu and Red Hat based servers in a LAMP environment, as well as MySQL, FTP, SMTP/POP3 servers and DNS
•Experience of WAN technologies, especially ADSL and FTTC services but also Leased Lines
•Some experience of programming languages such as ASP, PHP, HTML, Perl
•Virtualisation technologies, such as Xen and Hyper V
•Knowledge of Cisco networking, including configuration of managed switches
•Knowledgeable of IP addresses and subnetting
•Qualifications such as MCITP, MCSA, CCNA, ITILv3 would be advantageous
•Prior experience of SonicWALL appliances would be advantageous
•A full, clean driving licence would be advantageous


This position includes overnight and weekend shifts on rotation. This position offers a basic salary dependent upon experience, plus shift allowance and optional contributory pension scheme.
