Please recommend an alternative to Hostgator dedicated server

Hello all, first time poster here at WHT and I could use some advice.

I currently have a couple of dedicated servers at Hostgator for a custom web app we've developed. We have 2 "Pro" servers.

Because of the unreliability of HG lately we are looking to move off of them.

I'm looking for an alternative that can give the same kind of service we got at HG (or once did):

    -fully managed
    -24/7 support in quick fashion
    -cpanel/whm
-specs at or better than their Pro level.
    -extremely reliable and proven

I just want to do a whm/cpanel move with as few steps as possible to a new service. Open to any recommendations, thanks.

Just checkout the Dedicated Server Offer Section : http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=36

You will find loads of offers there within your requirements.

$374 sounds like a lot to be paying for a server of that spec, you should have no problems finding a similar config for at least $100 pm cheaper. Do you know what CPU you are currently using?

    thank you for the responses.

I'm more a software guy so I don't know much about their specs. We just happened to organically grow with HG over several years, started with shared hosting, eventually jumped to the biggest they had for safety.

I see that forum full of posts, but I'd appreciate if someone could just cut to a strong recommendation for me. thanks.

I'd stay with HG if their service hadn't changed so much, so I'm hoping to find something very similar.

    Please specify your requirements:
    1) Location
    2) Budget
    3) Server configuration (hardware / bandwidth)

There are lots of premium provider like Softlayer.com
I personally recommend softlayer if you don't have budget problem.

It would be most painless to me to find something comparable to the HG Pro.

    Location: US based ideally.
    Price: Currently paying $375 x 2 servers
Configuration: at or better than HG Pro

The reason I liked HG was it was easy to work with for a non tech guy like myself, I was able to handle everything. whm was easy and if I needed help it was a chat or phonecall away and the problem was dealt with.

They also would stay on top of hack attempts, etc. so i'm looking for that kind of service. thank you.

The OP is after a fully managed Server, so Softlayer isn't an option.

    Softlayer do offer managed server
    http://www.softlayer.com/managed

But its very costly. But you always have alternative:
    1) Softlayer server from 100tb.com with managed service
    2) Get softlayer server and contract with any server management company. Will cost extra $30-50 per month.

RE: Please recommend an alternative to Hostgator dedicated server

I recommend the two companies below. See the Dedicated offer section in this forum for their current offerings.

-LiquidWeb (I prefer them because of several datacenter, US east/west coast and might be a bigger company)

-Wiredtree ( Great support and hardware)

    Cheers,

    I recommend HostDime: http://www.hostdime.com/managed-dedicated-servers/

All those servers are FULLY managed and include cPanel/WHM, security hardening, optimization, etc in the prices you see on the website.

For reference. These are the specs of the HostGator Pro plan.

    Intel Xeon Quad Core, 3.3GHz (8 threads) - I assume an E3-1230V2
    1 Gbps Uplink
    16 GB High Performance RAM
    1,000 GB RAID-1 Drives
    25 TB Bandwidth
    5 Dedicated IPs

You're probably going to see cheaper prices from other managed providers compared to HostGator for those specs. I'd expect something up to $100 less per month.

Take a look at LimeStone Networks. We have been using them along with a few other dtacenters for a few years now. Great service & good prices. They do have management options as well.

Take a look over at Limeweb and Liquidweb, plenty of others but those are two that I recommend. As for your options:

You can buy a fully managed server and that way everything is on one bill and through one provider. Your other option is to purchase an Unmanaged Dedicated Server (even cheaper for the power) and hire a third party server management service.

Thanks for your recommendation Kingfish. Most know us for the items you mentioned, but we do have a solid, affordable managed offering as well (LimeAid). Again, we appreciate your endorsement as well as your business.

    Knownhost

I was in the same situation as you, I had a Pro Hostgator dedicated server but due to increasing instability and downtimes decided to move away from them. I picked up a Knownhost dedicated level 3 server for $150 less than what Hostgator charged, with better hardware (be sure to look under their "current specials" section for free upgrades).

In the 5 months I've been with them the server has been rock solid, with a total downtime of 12 minutes (vs 1-4 hours per week for Hostgator). Migration was fast, and support actually knows what they're doing and was able to handle requested software upgrades without messing up the rest of the server (unlike Hostgator). They don't have a support phone number, but they respond quickly to support tickets.

One thing I will say, make sure to check the IP addresses they assign you, mine were pretty dirty and required some blacklist cleaning. If nothing else (and there is indeed nothing else) at least Hostgator gave me clean IPs.

+1 for HostDime! I've worked with Manny and his team for awhile. Started with dedicated, went to 1u colo and now I have a quarter of a rack with them. Great facility and staff.

If that's a common issue, I don't know if I'd trust them. There's a chance that they might not be policing their network properly... That can cause issues with you and your clients email sending since it could cause your ip space to be in a "bad neighbourhood

Still expensive with the configuration, and the 100 Mbps connection ? And they are asking money for setup (for level 3)?

    Code:
    Package(s) Total $239.00
    Package(s) Setup $229.00
(setup close to cost of the server / month)

? Common, you can find many providers with better prices here.

If you're looking for fully managed with less of a set up fee, check out WiredTree. Their prices are a little more competitive than KnownHost. Although I'd give KnownHost the edge (don't get me wrong -- WT is a great provider, I just like KH better), WiredTree has a bit better pricing & regularly runs promos in the dedicated server offer section I do believe.

As I said, look under the "specials" section. There is no setup fee and the configuration is better than that listed.

There isn't. Those information I have from their order system, maybe they have another order system? Common... I don't trust web hosting companies saying they are the best...Every time will be somebody better that the other...

I have nothing against Knownhost, I just don't like false advertising...

Claiming we are the best is very far from "false advertising". We offer top-notch services and many do consider us to be the best.

What in the world are you talking about? I recommended KH because I use and like them, I didn't say they are the "best", and what false advertising are you referring to? The specials are listed right there next to their servers. (Hint: click on the "Specials" link. I know I know, it's sneaky of them to hide the specials so deviously.)

I wasn't referring to you or you your company, far away that intention. and I don't want to elaborate here too much about this, because is useless.

My opinion was that there is no such this like the best company, it depends from which point, the false advertising was related to:

    this is not true....
