Angry Centos Boot Error - Help!

I had an unexpected system reboot today after which one of the VMs running Centos 6 no longer boots. On boot time prompt stays at "Checking local flesystem quotas" for a while (5-10 min) and then starts giving an infinite loop of following error:

/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: line xx: usleep command not found
/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: line xx: /sbin/pidof: No such file or directory

Any help to fix this is greatly appreciated.

Turn acpi off in boot options. (On booting, type acpi=off into the boot
options.) Try this and see if it helps.

Has this happened on multiple reboot attempts, or did you just get the errors and stop?

It happened multiple times each reboot.

I tried many options, nothing works so decided to recover from a week old backup.
