Almost decided on Stablehost... and other questions
This finding a shared host supplier is a nightmare! I didn't realise there were so many host companies out there. I worry that the ones that come recommended on this forum are either new start-ups that could fold at any time, or have only been recommended because the poster has a vested interest in them, so how can I find independent reviews? I was told to check the reviews on this forum but I see no review section. Am I going blind? Can someone point the review section out to me?
One company that came up a few times was Stablehost. I was almost ready to commit and then my Vaultpress backup came back telling me my main Wordpress website is 22Gb. This put me outside their recommended VPS deal and into very expensive domain/website hosting. I know this is bloated but I don't have time at the moment to go through and delete the unnecessary files, so I may have to knock Stablehost on the head (I'm awaiting a response from them).
Crocweb has also been mentioned a few times too. Does being based in Canada make any difference to me? I'm British, living in Malaysia, with many readers in the States and Europe, so does any of that matter? I've been chatting to their sales people and it does seem I can use Vaultpress to do an easy transfer to their servers. Anyone with any experience of Vaultpress and how easy it is to do this?
Finally, I quickly checked out Hawkhost. They seem like a viable option too.
It seems I should be looking for servers that run on Litespeed, have cPanel, and hosts who can make the complete website transfer over for me without me having to do the dloading and uploading of that rather large Vaultpress backup (my current host doesn't have cPanel).
StableHost and HawkHost are both reputable providers with many positive reviews posted here on WHT. WHT Does not have a specific review section, but most users who feel compelled enough to post a review usually create a thread in this very section. What you can try doing is do a search on this forum section for "Stablehost review" or "Hawkhost review" and see if there are any recent ones that got posted here.
Thank you all for your replies, and for endorsing the couple of host companies I'd shortlisted.
Vaultpress backs up everything, and it's a simple upload to the new host without me having to do it. The 22Gb are not all used as some of this was image backups from some years ago. I could trim it down if I had the time and decent connection.
I think shared would be fine and since these hosts allow a 60-day money-back I can give it a go and see how I get on.
