Hrm, I wonder if I ran into this heh:

If UEFI is not supported on the system, the older v4 BIOS version is booted.
Seems strange that v5.00RC1 works without doing that, but V5.0.0 reverts back to an older version....

you prolly are confused by MEMTEST86(by passmark.com) vs. MEMTEST86+ (by memtest.org)! they are two competing "rival" developers.

"v5.00RC1" was by memtest.org, and the OP was referring to v5.0 by passmark.com

the RC1 by memtest.org was also out of release-candidate in late Sept, and the production release (v5.01) is available here:
    (ISO) http://www.memtest.org/download/5.01...+-5.01.iso.zip
    (bootable USB installer) http://www.memtest.org/download/5.01....installer.zip

which one is better? it remains to be tested, and only time will tell!

That is terribly confusing, I wasn't actually aware of that.

Having said that, I grabbed memtest from the url above. I assume its because it's an older core2/Q9550 server that I ran it on (just the first spare I had in my list, with known bad ram as we pulled it last week).
