Depends on your needs. KVM or OPENVZ. For linux without need to load specific kernel/modules=openvz, for linux(with custom kernel/modules)/windows/bsd= KVM.

I've always and will always been a fan of Xen, VPS which is like a small dedicated server. Yum haha. Oh and you can't oversell Xen like you can with OpenVZ.

KVM can oversell RAM and CPU but NOT the Disk Space.

Also I ve heard about "ballooning" on XEN but I am not familiar with it so I dont know if its really possible to oversell in XEN and how.

    never heard of thin provisioning?

Every method of virtualization has some oversell ability, it is a cornerstone to the entire premise of virtualization, to utilize a server completely.

Since people are mentioning overselling. I thought I would point out that with any of these virtualizaiton platforms, there really is no limit to overselling i/o. Nothing stopping me from grabbing a 4TB drive and putting 100 clients on it without overselling space.

Disk i/o is really the most important aspect to most vps setups and none of these platforms force you to limit customers per box.

Every platform can be oversold with multiple options. The ones that tell you otherwise likely have a hidden agenda. I never see OpenVZ hosts saying openvz is bad just like I never see KVM or XEN hosts mention that there are methods to oversell their platform.

I say read past any crap about overselling and mostly read on what your actual needs are, then compare what the virtualization is capable of.

I use KVM on my Server. I like use KVM because I think it can make our client easy (just my opinion)
