I am going to be getting a VPS for a Invision Power Board Forum. It is very small at the moment so I was wondering if I should be looking into a SSD VPS or a normal VPS? The database won't be big and I won't be hosting any files.
I want to go for a good speed and performance. I plan to use a DDOS protection like Cloudflare (or please suggest a better one) to help.
I am noob at this so I just need to know what size of VPS I need for something like this. I will be getting it from KnownHost because they offer managed VPS's and they have great prices.
I want to stay away from shared hosting due to the level of insecurity I have heard it has. Symlinks, etc.
That's dependent on provider, but good shared will be as secure as possible for its purpose.
For something small though you don't need too many resources, but then once you grow a bit SSD will without doubt give you improved performance for something like a forum. I am biased of course, as I'm an SSD lover, but on this occasion its a fact! Something that relies so heavily on a database will always be better on SSD.
