    Suggest me web hosting provider

    Hi,

I'm a newbie to web hosting. I want to buy a domain and set up my personal website. I might not need to use database for this site. I might also need a few sub domains. Any suggestions for hosting providers or hosting plans?

Also, for SEO purpose, which domain name is better:
    myname.me
    mynamebio.com

What is your budget? Even for a personal site, I'll recommend paying a respectable price for the hosting to avoid hosts that vanish overnight.

    Does $30-40/year seem feasible?

You can go with whichever you prefer. It's nice to have a keyword in the domain name, but it certainly isn't the end of the world if you don't. On page SEO is where it's at. Given it seems like your optimizing for your own name, you should have an easier time getting the results you want as opposed, to say, trying to target a hyper competitive keyword.

Personally, I like the idea of using the ".me" domains for personal websites.

For a portfolio, .me is fine.
I usually recommend Stablehost or Site5 for newbies. Good hosts.

Never used a .me before but a new experience is well worth a shot. You don't seem like a high resource user so any web host (that has positive reviews of course) will do. Just focus on stability and how long they have been up.

Always review what they have and how they operate. Best of luck!

Not sure how good it will be for SEO.

You can also look for cTLD
    Like yourname.in / yourname.us /yourname.co.uk etc

I have seen many freelancer / designer using country TLD for their personal/portfolio website.

Try to go with a webhost who do not have yearly contracts and do have 30 Moneyback Guarantee along with free technical support (Live chat is preferred) This way you can cancel your services if you are not satisfied with the service offered by your webhost and can move to a different webhost.

    .com would be better.
$30-$40/year is more than enough. I am sure you won't require a bigger space so even a starter plan would do with you. Just browse through various hosts available. I think your basic plan would cost you somewhere $20-$20/year or less than that. Good Luck

If your budget is limited, you may find a host who offers cheap plans without databases and extra features that you do not need. In any case, contact them before you register and ask a few questions so you can have a reply and judge yourself if they seem good.

There is no difference for SEO. But I prefer .com domains

"myname.me" according to me is better. it would be nice if it had the TLD with .com but with good content that would not be a problem.

.me doesn't mean what you think it means.

.me is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Montenegro.
So unless you are based in Montenegro or the majority of your visitors are from that country I don't see the point using .me

Best to use .com as it's the most popular TLD and tends to be the one entered in web browser by new visitors trying to reach your site. At the very least, use country TLD e.g .co.uk, .us etc.

Or if site is for informational purposes you could use .info

The domain name info is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) in the Domain Name System (DNS) of the Internet. The name is derived from information indicating that the domain is intended for informative Internet resources, although registration requirements do not prescribe any theme orientation
But, again, it's best to use .com , .net or country domain e.g .co.uk, .us etc.

I would not go for a host where I have to go through their technical support each time I want to change a password or add/delete an email account.

It's been generic for years now.

I can see why many use .me as it looks like a "I" personal TLD, but it's like being based in the United Kingdom and using a .de or .co.za which doesn't really make sense to do and may affect rankings.

I suppose if you aren't based in Montenegro it'd probably be best to use Geotargeting to be on the safe side.

It's a good idea to see if any offer a free trial say for a month to allow you to test their service before you commit at all.
