    Angry Hostgator is down completely!

Looks like hostgator is under fire again.

We have 3 dedicated servers with them and all are DOWN.

They say they have an outage at the provo DC:

    http://forums.hostgator.com/network-...579#post500579

We have been using them since 2007 and its the first time we face such a massive outage with all servers.

Very sad, but hostgator fell to the bottom after they were acquired by EIG.

  2. Thread Summary In addition to the outage discussed at the beginning of this thread, EIG was hit with a huge outage on New Years Eve 2013. WHTers share their stories and details on this latest outage starting on the second page of this thread.

The brands hit are Bluehost, Hostgator, Hostmonster, and JustHost.

Updates for BlueHost are available via @BlueHostSupport Twitter account, but no ETA for recovery is currently available.

Update: January 2, 2014 -- Service is reportedly restored for most EIG brands.

The current (January 2, 2014) global state of attack traffic on the internet from Akamai still shows at 12.81% higher than average, with major clusters on the west and east coast of the US and in central Europe.

    Resources:

To check the global status of internet traffic, go to Akamai's
real-time internet monitoring page. They provide data on attack traffic, the slowest web connections, and general web traffic. The data is available at http://www.akamai.com/html/technology/dataviz1.html.

    Us too

Our servers are down as well. I just hung up with customer service. After she told me that my servers were down and they were working in it, blah, blah, blah, the conversation went like this:

ME: So I hear that you guys have been sold.

    HG: Yes, a while back.

ME: And you're moving servers from Dallas to Utah?

    HG: Yes.

ME: From the blogs online, it does not seem that has been going too well, has it?

HG: No. Not at all. But we're working on it.

ME: Well, considering you had a huge outage in August as well, it doesn't seem like things are getting better, does it?

HG: No. It's bad. But were working on it.

I was stunned that she was so open about agreeing with me about the issues. She sounded exasperated. Poor thing.

As much as it pains me, I'm not convinced there is a host that doesn't have these kinds of problems. If we had our own infrastructure, servers, power generators and so on....we to would have the same problem. It's complicated by the fact they are moving servers to Provo, Utah....you just know something is gonna go down : (

According to reports on another forum I use, it's still down, and it's been almost 7 hours.
When will people learn that "Hostgator" is gone, and its just EIG now?

I moved my domain & email hosting from them. It was the only thing I had left with them. Moved to namecheap.

Not just Hostgator, Bluehost, Justhost and more other EIG brands are down as well.

I won't be surprised if they start to lose all their customers. Ever since the host was sold to another owner, it has been a complete disappointment.

LMFAO, I attempted to submit a help ticket to my new website host to migrate the database and html files from hostgator (once they're up and running) but the new host's customer support site is down. No, it's not an EIG owned brand.

Edit, help ticket at trial site created for migration. I will be moving my files from hostgator and requesting a refund based on their 99.9% up-time guarantee. I suggest all other unhappy hostgator customers do the same.

Kind of a bad day to be down, considering we bill our credit card customers today. Curious to see how this will work out.

New thread on this topic at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1335589

There is a new thread on this latest outage, since it concerns a number of EIG brands.

You may find more info there going forward.

I think hostgator should change their sub-title as "We're eaten-up by EIG and competitions"

Each time this kind of thread pops up,
we get a surge of signups and migrations to do,
can't say EIG is doing a bad job ;-)

well at least I can get into cpanel, and I downloaded the database so I can bill credit cards and ship products. Not sure if cpanel just started working or not as this was the first time I checked it. Front end is still down. Account migration to new host in progress!! what a PITA.

Sad that this happened on the last day of the year, when there is normally less staff and slower business.

Last check, they are still down. We couldn't even get their name servers to respond so it looks pretty big. Hopefully those affected here will be back up and running soon.

They should invest some of that advertising budget into building a better network.

This will be a good time to consider moving to other hosts

  36. #35
I am moving to BlueHost soon. I have just heard so many better things about BlueHost and after using HostGator I found out the servers are awful, the only thing which is good is the support but that's worthless when the servers are poor.

Hostgator and BlueHost are same. They are just two different brand name of the same parent company EIG.

So, moving from HG to BH will only change the name of the provider.

ROFL they are the same company & generally both down at the same time. Check the shared hosting section of this site and find a nice reputable host.
