WordPress can be very resource hungry CMS, even for a site that does not get allot of visitors. The 1 core CPU will probably not work especially with 1 GB Ram you are not quite even on your resources. The 1 core will be a bottle neck and will be easily overwhelmed. You should have at least 2 cores for a plan like this.
The second plan that offers 2 cores will work better since the other plan probably wont work at all.
I would say upgrade to the 2 GB - 2 Core plan and see how it is. Have you talked to your web hosting provider and asked them what they recommend? Also you may want to make sure your WordPress is optimized to use less resources than normal.

Hows your current usage on the server? that depends on what plug ins you have on your WP and how heavy is that. but it could be sufficient on 1GB RAM

Does all the sites use the same amount of resources, or just the one your inquiring about?
Depending on what route you want to take, you could also look into Nginx, or a vps without a control panel. For instance, cpanel/apache/centos will use about 512mb of memory before anything else gets to use the memory.
for wordpress having 55,000 page views daily, i recommend
2 gb ram
I agree, I'd stress the cores especially if he's going to be on a VPS.
That's going to cost him almost double than his $7 plan he had in mind.

Ngix will cache everything for static pages, but his issue might be the resources available to do the caching. Lighttpd might do just fine for him with low CPU and RAM usage. His IOPS wont be limited as much and with increased cores he'll be just fine.
